News: Presets Apocalypso Bio by Elle

Flicking through the alphabetised racks of your local CD emporium you’ll find that releases from Australian electro wizards The Presets fit snugly between Pet Shop Boys and Elvis Presley. Could there be some weird universal synergy to this? The strident beat of the heart and the swagger of the hips: it’s at this musical cross point of emotive technological peaks and primal caveman rock that one finds The Presets.

After two years studio silence, The Presets (Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes) come rocketing back into the fray with their sophomore album, Apocalypso. Ranging from expansive, emotive techno, to future pagan house and choral space funk, Apocalypso demonstrates the band's undeniably canny knack for welding hook-laden pop to some of the most singular and exciting sounds of tomorrow.
In less than four years Julian Hamilton (vocals, programming and keys) and Kim Moyes (drums, programming and keys) have worked their way up and out though the music... Presets Apocalypso Bio at 2threads

News: Powderfinger - The Upstairs at the Downstairs Tour by Lexy

Powderfinger, stalwarts of the Aussie rock scene, make a stomping return to the touring circuit with the national The Upstairs at the Downstairs Tour.
But don’t think this is going to be your usual sardine in the moshpit experience… this will be a much more personal, intimate tour. After years of sell-out tours to packed stadiums, Powderfinger return to theatres for the first time in 8 years. And to make these gigs something special, the boys will perform two sets in each show; first up an acoustic, laid-back set, then an out-and-out rock set. To make things even more interesting, you get to choose what you want them to play beforehand. Vote for your favourite song online, and head along to the gigs to hear your choice.
The band is on the road to promote their critically-acclaimed album, Dream Days at the Hotel Existence.
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday 11 April, or for powderfinger.com fan club members on Thursday 10 April. All dates are supported by Whitley.

News: Sebastien Tellier: Eurovision and Sexuality by Lexy

French electro-wunderkind Sebastien Tellier clearly has one thing on his mind. From the near graphic album cover through to the track titles to his latest album Sexuality, no clues need to be given as to his muse. Having penned one of the most addictive, effortlessly beautiful tunes of recent memory with La Ritournelle, Tellier’s latest release takes the cues from that song’s lyrics (“So we make love in the grass under the moon”) to a new level.
Produced by Daft Punk’s Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo, Sexuality is filled to the brim with breezy, synth-laden tunes. There is no reprieve from the theme, and most certainly this ticks all the boxes of a concept album about sex. But being able to bypass the female moans that accompany Pomme, and the intriguingly-titled tracks like Fingers of Steel is essential in appreciating the sheer inventive song writing skill of Tellier.
Given the recent news that Tellier is France’s entry into the Eurovision Song Conte... Sebastien Tellier: Eurovision and Sexuality at 2threads

News: Is Emo The New Pop? by jonnoseidler

Countless pages have been wasted on describing the tenets of the emo subculture, so I’m not going to traverse the already covered climes of this ‘evil’ Goth offspring. What I am going to do is look at the spread of the genre, and how it is permeated in today’s Top 40 charts. Let’s face up to the facts folks – emo sells. Fallout Boy, label mates Panic! At The Disco and Simple Plan are all stable parts of our musical consciousness, with their ever-annoying tunes being pumped through every major FM frequency. The critical factors – distorted bar chords, whiny vocals and big drums are prevalent in all of these artists music. Indeed, in a field dominated by males, one can view emos as a natural evolution from the boy bands of our childhood. Killer harmonies, formulaic melodies and slick, glossy production all echo the Backstreet Boys’ heyday. Patrick Stump, Fallout Boy’s front man, has disputed this theory “Boy Band? No way &... Is Emo The New Pop? at 2threads

News: V Festival by jonnoseidler

V Fest
When this Richard Branson-funded monolith rolls into town for its second year, it serves as the perfect closer to a summer full of mega-festivals. Like Good Vibrations sans fluoro fanatics and Big Day Out minus beer-soaked rock pigs, V Fest is the perfect balance of music, fashion and atmosphere, set in the lush environs of Sydney’s Centennial Park.
The day gets off to a cracking start as Swedish tomboy supreme Robyn treats loyal fans to her unique blend of electro-pop with plenty of attitude and sass. Over on the blue stage, Modest Mouse prove why they are among the most respected indie bands in the universe, with an explosive set that showcases their collective and individual strengths. Boasting two incredible drummers, ex-Smiths guitarist extraordinaire Johnny Marr and a positively bonkers front man, the Mouse are as entertaining as they are bemusing. And when they break into the explosive Bury Me With It, it’s clear that this is a band at the top of their... V Festival at 2threads
