Musica Viva proudly presents acclaimed British cellist Steven Isserlis and Hungarian pianist Dénes Và rjon, in a program comprised entirely of works for cello and piano by Robert Schumann. The duo will be touring to Sydney on Saturday 25th July and Monday 3rd August, 2009.
Steven Isserlis is a cellist whose passion for music transcends normal boundaries. He is acclaimed worldwide both for his musicianship and technical prowess. He is equally at home drawing in audiences for chamber music or performing in recital. He is comfortable delving into the archives to emerge with a forgotten compositional gem to revive or on the concert platform playing concertos with some of the worlds most prestigious orchestras and conductors.
While Isserlis has been a regular concerto performer in Australia, this tour provides an opportunity for music-lovers to hear this outstanding artist in recital with his distinguished colleague and musical soul-mate, Hungarian pianist Dénes Várjon, who will be... Lady Gaga loves her leather leggings, attempting to wear maybe a bit toomuch of trendy clothing.&nbsp;&nbsp; The 22-year-old singer intends on spreading her love of flesh-flashing garments by designing her own clothing line.

News: FOXX ON FIRE interview: Music, masks and megaphones by Kaya

For those of you who have been living under a rock these past few weeks, you may not of heard of Tooheys Extra Dry side project 'uncharTED'. It's pretty much the mecca for undiscovered independent bands, with a spot on the bill for Splendor in the Grass 2010 and an artist development package worth $25K up for grabs.<br />
Out of thousands came the Top 50, from the Top 50 came the Top 10 and as the competition draws to a close the tension is high.
Nowadays bands left right and center claim to be indie rock so it's hard to stand out amongst the crowd. One band that seems to obtain a little more PHZAZ is none other than victorian band, Foxx on Fire. <br />
Currently ranking second in the uncharTED comp, Foxx on Fire are described to make 'apocalyptic disco-noir for the dance floor.' With their trusty megaphone in tow, Geno, Paul, Ed and James have played with the likes of Lost Valentinos, Miami Horror, Dukes of Windsor and Midnight Juggernauts, just to name a few. <br />
Fortunately... FOXX ON FIRE interview: Music, masks and megaphones at 2threads

News: Musica Viva presents Tokyo String Quartet in Newcastle by AG11

Coming to Australia this June, prepare to witness one of the worlds greatest string quartets, when Musica Viva proudly presents the Tokyo String Quartet in an astounding performance at the Concert Hall, Newcastle Conservatorium.

This electrifying quartet with unparalleled style and exuberant, lush sound will pair Haydn with Brahms in one program, and Mendelssohn with Beethoven in another. In each program these great Classical and Romantic quartets contrast with the 5th String Quartet of Australian composer, and Musica Vivas Artistic Director, Carl Vine.

Crisp and sparkling this quartet has few rivals in the world of chamber music. Embodying the finesse, poise and richness of its Japanese heritage, and the depth, vigor and stunning accuracy typical of the USA, the Tokyo String Quartet truly do combine the best of East and West. Described as 'a beautifully hand carved bow with the power of a jet engine' this galvanised ensemble bridges the musical domain with startling perfor...
