About manhattansocial

My name is Kristen and I live in the East Village in New York.

I fell into interior design after graduation but now I am working as a PR assistant at Industry Publicity in Soho and freelancing until the economy shakes things up!

Fashion and travel are my true passions in life. I love Italy and France. I lived in Florence for four months when I was 21. J'adore Paris. Very cliche because I am a feminine girl. I love Tuscany. I love the Amalfi coast. I can't wait to go to Capri again when I am a power business woman in my white linen for a month and drink bellinis and lay out all day. I speak French, Italian and Spanish; mostly Italian. My ethnicity is 1/2 French, 1/4 English, and 1/4 Polish and German. I've interned with Harper's Bazaar thinking editorial was for me, but "no thanks" to working all the time!

Right now I am kind of just floating to gain professional experience in fashion and to pay my rent; waiting for that great fashion opportunity to come my way.

I spend several nights a week networking at chic eateries, parties, trunk shows, night clubs and lounges--but I try to keep it low key. Dancing on pedestals and indulging in champagne massif are what the weekends are all for--unless of course I am working! I live by the mantra WORK HARD PARTY HARD.

I have wanted to live in New York since I was virtually five years old and have worked hard to be here, from getting into NYU to working three jobs--i've done it all!

I am originally from Fairfield County, CT and I have a great family who I am very close with especially my baby sister Ally who is also a fierce photographer!

Besides Ally, I have a ton of great girlfriends which make life out on the town interesting and exciting! From college friends with record deals, roomates with brothers of prime-time fame, getting citations for open containers from NYPD (one of my low brow moments btw), corner banquettes at butter and Indochine(sometimes i know "people") or going to dive bars for the boys.

And what would a fashionistas life be without boys? You would think i liked the pretty boy LA type that could get me into every chill club in New York, right?

Give me an ivyleaguer in a suit who isn't socially retarded, 6' or taller with an athletic build and i'm done! Something about smarts, sucess and good looks is ever more appealing then just looks and vapor...that's usually it with those clubby boys. Make sure the suit boys aren't complete nerds or treat women like strippers--so tacky.

I mean I am from Connecticut?! I will always have a special place in my heart for polos and jacks along with Marc and Chanel!

PS...socializing and partying does not mean a girl stops taking care of herself! A fashionista consists on a diet of mostly fruits, coffee with soy and no artificial sugars, veggies, whole grains, fish, wine and goods fats like avocado and olive oil--and of course the occasional splurge! And religiously partaking in cardio and strength training exercises--I am NOT trying to be Michael Phelps or anything but I like having a good physique. After party hopping into the wee hours on the weekend get home for shut eye during the week and limit alcohol and abstain from ciagarettes.

Otherwise if you continue to "burn the midnight oil", go to work hung over, binge drink, inhale greasy pizza and nachos to sober/settle yourself while ceremoniously puffing the cigarette peace pipe you are going to look like a DRIED OUT RAISIN FACE AT 30! Not so sexy! AND where do you think those excess calories are going? Not into thin air--they are setting up camp on your ass, thighs and gut! Say goodbye to your cigarette pants and skinny jeans. Put some SPF on that face and give yourself some love!

But back to my fashion roots...

My Dad is old school in that although he is very sucessful and gave me everything I needed and -almost- everything I wanted. But he did always make me have a job and work for anything "extra"! How glamourous is it cutting pizzas at 14? Dreaming of Dior and serving diet coke? Mum was an interior designer part-time out of our home while growing up hence as to why I started my professional life in that field.

I am going to write, blog, bitch, and point out all things fashion related in terms of trying to pull a little glam out of day to day life because honey...life ain't so damn glam!

But...your life is what you make it! Always!

Let's have some fun this beat is sick...
