About jaye

Hi, I'm very passionate about writing. I'm currently working on my first novel that I hope to finish very soon. I am a passionate advocate against cruelty to animals. I love to shop and often buy things I don't really need but I love all my clothes anyway. I am obsessed with buying bags and have now run out of places to put them but I always need more.

Very happy to now call myself a contributor! Hope you guys like my stuff and all feedback is welcome!

What Shoes?

So, this is a little bit of a personal blog. I am in desperate need of some fashion advice because this is causing me to meltdown. On October 11 (I know it may seem like ages away but still) I will have my 21'st birthday party (my actual bday is the day before if anyone wants to kindly give me an Oroton wallet or a trip to New York). It is Hollywood themed, only so I can go as Marilyn Monroe, who I love and adore so much. I have

The Top 5 Australian Fashion Chainstores

If you're like me and love to shop there will be a select few stores which you love, and always enter (money or no money) and a select few which you wrinkle your nose at each time you walk by. When I first moved to Sydney in 2003 I was a shopping novice. It took me a while to become accustomed to shops everywhere. When I did I had no idea what to buy and when I actually got money to buy clothes I just wasn't sure. Today, however,

Runaway Lovers

Runaway Lovers: a great Aussie brand who brought the majority of their production back to Melbourne for their Winter 08 collection. A fantastic attempt to promote the 'No Sweat' campaign in Australia to support the pay and working rights of the folks in the clothing industry.  Season to season the signature of Runaway Lovers is quintessentialy Aussie. Each collection has elements of playfulness, the freedom to be adventurous

Irina Lazareanu

Irina Lazareanu, 26, a model, twice engaged to greasy Pete Doherty and friend of Kate Moss. But isn't everybody? Irina Lazareanu is known for her quirky, vintage-inspired style (which, most say, contributed to the rise of her modelling career). Lazareanu says: "I’m very influenced by the whole 1960s–1970s London era, not only in terms of my clothes but also in terms of the music I listen to, the movies I watch, t

The Quest For A New Life

On Sunday I will begin my quest for a new life, more commonly known as a new mobile phone, and I need some objective voices to assist me in the lead up to this new chapter. Here's what I use my phone for: -Messaging -Calling (very rarely I hate talking to people) -Emailing (I do this a lot at uni because it only costs $3 a month for unlimited emails) -Taking pictures of Minnie (she hates my digital

Quick Question: Was She Ever?

A quick question that I pose to you all out there: Was Mischa Barton ever really a fashion icon? Let me think about this carefully: 1. "Fashion icon" gets thrown around far too quickly lately so how can one ever really know who a true fashion icon is. 2. At the time of said person being labelled as above she was only 18/19... Far too young in my books to be labelled as such. 3. As

The Songs That Mean Something

Music isn't all about relationships: love, sex and all that jazz. There are a few songs out there in musicdom that actually mean something (to me). I am a big fan of writing to sooth the soul and when I actually get my novel published I would love for someone to pick it up and feel better. I would love my words to help someone but while I wait to find a publisher (is there anyone out there?) I fill the void of not helping someone with wo

All about "the" Skye

So here she is and here's what you need to know: Like friend Abbey Lee Kershaw, Skye Stracke is an Aussie (a Perthian to be exact). She was born on December 4, 1990 (she's 18) and she's gorgeous as hell! She's a newcomer in the model scene, known for her pout, she's modelled for the likes of Phillip Lim and

Tattoos: The Ultimate Accessory?

To me the ultimate fashion accessories are the following: a good big bag, a comfy pair of cute flats, my locket and my charm bracelet. I'm simple. Some share the same ideas as me. To others, however, a fashion accessory can consist of any of the following: - a dog - a boyfriend - a different, exciting, and often weird, piercing or... -a tattoo. To be quite essayish: a tattoo is a permanent

The Trend Unfollower

As a general rule, I don't follow trends. And people who do really annoy me. There are many things I would really like to buy but the fact that EVERYONE has one (eg; checked shirts) really turns me off. I like the fact that I wear what I wear because I like it and not because some fashion editor picked it out for me. The same also applies for: technology (phones, laptops), boyfriends and basically anything in life. Now I'm not s

US Kath and Kim

Now I may get shot for saying so but....I generally dislike all things Australian. I hate it when people refer to celebrities who were born in Aus as "our". Nicole Kidman is not ours and neither is Princess Mary! I hate Kochie and his declaration that many silly things are "un-Australian". If David Koch is Australian then I don't want to be. I do, however, love Vegemite and VB and I love love love AFL. When I

The New New York: The New Kids on the Block Part 2

In Part 1 we had the main girls of Gossip Girl (Serena, Blair and Jenny). In Part 2 we have Chuck, Nate and Dan all of whom are equally gorgeous with their rugged looks and chiselled jaws. Despite my boobs telling me I am indeed female, I lust over their wardrobes more so than many a female celeb. Chuck

The New New York: The New Kids on the Block Part 1

Sex and the City may have dominated the New York streets and style stakes for 6 years but now there's some new kids on the block. Drum roll please! In part 1 we have the effortlessley stylish Serena Van Der Woodsen, gorgeous but bitchy Blair Waldorf and the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, Brooklyn to be exact, Jenny Humphrey. Check out their style here: Serena

9 to 5

This week I was forced to slip out of my Elmo pyjamas, which had become dressy for me, and into some proper clothes. People talk about how the transition for uni student to worker is hard especially in regards to fashion but I didn't think that would be a problem for me. I'm not one to be overly scruffily dressed. I like to be presentable but you may sometimes catch me in a pair of track pants. Usually, however, I can be seen in jeans a

Abbey Lee Kershaw

Who needs another blonde haired, blue eyed Aussie beauty? Not me! But one glimpse at Abbey Lee Kershaw ensures all negative feelings toward the constant stream of look-alike models quickly fade. You may know her simply as: Abbey Lee, but one things for sure she's absolutely gorgeous with a face most would die for (and she doesn't resemble an alien unlike a certain Aussie model, who I shall not name. Always a plus!)

HomeWears

In winter there is nothing I love more than snuggling up in bed with my laptop, my gorgeous dog Minnie and a steaming mug of hot chocolate (or rather hot Milo). However, these times would not be the same without a few essential things. Things that I like to call: HomeWears (like Homewares but clothing instead of furnishings). Winter is not the same without a special (or a few special) pairs of pyjamas. I have always had a passion

Fifi Lapin

Blogging's the new thing, haven't you heard? There's Perez Hilton, PinkIsTheNewBlog and now, thankfully, cute and quirky Fifi Lapin who is much more fashion, rather than celebrity, fuelled. Never heard of her? Well, until recently, neither had I but one simple browse on her page sees the reader falling very quickly in love. So who is Fifi Lapin? The about me section of her blog states: Hi, I'm Fifi. Fifi Lapin. I w

Rock Royalty

Their parents may not have been the greatest style icons, what with all the leather and the mullets, but these gorgeous and sassy girls are certainly paving their own way and gaining some serious fashion cred. Who are they? Well, there's a few but here a two I don't doubt you've heard of. Peaches Geldof (or is it Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa Geldof?), daughter of rock icon Bob Geldof an

One must be a psychic

In order to pack one most be completely psychic- I do believe. It is far too difficult a fete to manage all on my lonesome. I have always been terrible at packing, I must say. Before I moved in with my boyfriend I always had such difficulty in deciding what I neeeded and didn't need for a stay at his house. For: how am I supposed to know what it is exactly I will require. I may have a talent in selecting outfits the night or even weeks b

A True Fans Opinion of Sex and the City: The Movie

Before we start I would like to preface by saying: I do not believe that I am the only true fan out there. Yes, I can quote the episodes. Tell me an outfit I can tell you which episode, which season it came from. Give me an episode title I can tell you exactly what happened. But I am sure that many other can too. While settling into my seat at the Sex and the City Movie I was frustrated by, in my opinion, th

Where Have All the Good Girls Gone: style icons of the past

Where did all the fashion icons go? In the 50’s and 60’s the world had the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. The women were sexy and sophisticated- effortlessly glam. Today the term “fashion icon” falls to the likes of Kate Moss but if she’s anything to go by then the world of fashion is in serious trouble.

sticking up for the little guys...

In the upcoming weeks to the release of the SATC film in Australia, well really anywhere, I have heard so many women complain of how all men do is complain in relation to the movie and all I can say is: leave them alone! I don't know what men these women know but all the guys I know are looking forward to the movie tomorrow (and before you ask, no not all of them are gay). In fact, my boyfriend is coming with me tomorrow and he i

The Most Difficult Question of All

It's not "what came first the chicken or the egg?" No, the most difficult question of all is: "why is it that the more clothes I have the less I have to wear?" This is a question that I ponder on many ocassion. Yesterday being one of those days for yesterday was my second first date. What's a second first date you ask? Well, a second first date is your first date done over (almost three years later, mind you).

doggie fashion

So, if you love your dog as much as I love Minnie then you will love this. To me there is nothing better then splurging on your best friend, however, I do find it surprising that I love it as much as I do. The "Pre-Minnie" me used to spend $300 or more a week on clothes just for myself so to cut buck, a lot, and devote all of my time and money to her is something that still makes me think "Wow!" I like my men how i like...

I like my men how I like... Well I am unsure of how to finish that. I guess, I like my men how I like myself: fun, flirty and cute especially in regards to fashion... I am unsure why but I am not at all attracted to guys who follow fashion trends. I don't like guys in skinny jeans or tight shirts and while this is the "in" thing at the moment I prefer guys in something resembling the following: Converse

Truman, Who?

“All literature is gossip”- Truman Capote.

The 2005 film 'Capote' made his name widely recognised but, more often than not, you will still hear the words “Truman, who?” So let's answer it, shall we? Truman Capote is one of the greatest American authors of all time. He's penned some of the truly great books, 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' for one, 'In Cold Blood' for another but, somehow,

Million Paws Walk

This Sunday (18th May 2008) is the RSPCA Million Paws Walk. It's a great day for any animal lover but you don't have to own an animal to attend. This is a great fundraising event and for those who love charities the RSPCA is a great one to help. Every year they take in thousands of lost and neglected animals and give them much needed love and care.   So, as a passionate lover of all things furry I urge anyone, who c
