DILUCA® Eyewear From Fashion To Function :)
Introduction to Ultraviolet (UV): UV radiation can reach the eye directly or indirectly. Sunlight reflects off surface water, sand, snow or other bright objects and reflects UV radiation into the eyes. Cloudy days are not safe times from UV because the amount of UV transmitted is still significant when the sky is over cast- up to about 80 percent of it's normal intensity. Many people do not think to wear UV protective lenses on these days even when they are out of doors for long periods of time. UV rays have shorter wavelengths and more energy than visible light rays, They can have harmful effects on the eyes immediately or cumulatively from regular exposure over a number of years. The industry has set standards for how much UV may be transmitted (passed) by types of sunglasses. UV rays are strongest at high altitudes, low altitudes and in open or reflective environments (like sand, snow or water. They are also strongest at midday. Effects of UV radiation Short- term overexposure can cause temporary conditions like snow blindness or “welder's flash”. Long- term exposure causes eye diseases such as Cataracts; Age Related Macula Degeneration (AMD), Pterygiums which can cause the eye to take longer to adjust to the dark. In addition, vulnerability to UV increases with age. UV radiation also causes damage to the delicate skin surrounding the eyes (crow's feet), ranging from premature wrinkling to cancer.
