Admittedly, I hadn’t done my research as I dashed from Central to Circular Quay in hope of sneaking in to Jacqui Alexander’s Srping/Summer 2008 show.
To the untrained eye, one could have mistaken Rosemount Australian Fashion Week for a funeral or perhaps a better analogy, a week long wake. The sea of men and women dressed head to toe in black (very expensive black I might add), was very deceiving. In saying that, everyone looked fashion forward and amazingly debonair.
Electro house beats, a dramatic wall of purple light and a tightly packed room of stunners sets quite the atmosphere. After all, I had been looking forward to the young and practical range designed by 19 year old Jacqui Krivitsky (for all business purposes she would like to be known as Jacqui Alexander). She is the youngest designer to be stocked in high-end British department store, Harvey Nichols.
I have six words which have taken me quite some time to conjure up for this review - touch of glamour yet minimalist style. This young designer, who claims to have learnt everything she knows from her dad, creates pieces that ambitious, glamourous and hard working women can wear everyday.

There is a niche market in Australia for stylish clothes that can be taken directly from the catwalk to the office and then directly from the office to the bar.
The models were direct and powerful as they stomped their patent, black pumps on the cold, cement catwalk with intense eyes. The streak of bold colour through the top of their hair added to the garments straight lines and solid colours.
The collection of dresses, whimsical blouses and skirts is short, short, short with a big focus on necklines – think sweetheart and halter. Netting and statement sleeves were prominent as were delicately textured fabrics in solid colours.
