How to avoid winter hat hair

Winter is wonderful for so many reasons, like the beautiful snow, the holidays (gifts/parties), and hot chocolate.  But we all know the other side of winter too: the terrible temperatures, the extra weight, and my god, that winter hat hair always gets the best of us.

How to avoid winter hat hair: Don't wear a hat.  Oh, I know you're thinking, "That's insane and I'm not reading any more of your mind-boggling blogs." But, I'm only kidding. I know winter hats are a must, not only to keep you warm but to spice up your love affiar with accessories.  So, don't worry, I have real advice on how to avoid winter hat hair.

The key to keeping yourself from being a victim of hat hair in the winter is moisture.  First, shower daily along with conditioner, but only shampoo every other day.  Also  leave-in conditioners, like Herbal Essence or  Bumble and Bumble, should become your best friend through those long cold months.  Apply leave-in conditioner directly to the towel dried tips of your hair, then run fingers and palms from root to end until your hands are clean.  Then let air dry or blow dry, on low, if you're crunched for time.  This should help you to avoid hair dents and keep your hair from going extremely flat like Kiera Knightly's or going crazy frizzy like Nicole Kidman's.

Another great idea is to loosely braid your hair in one or two braids.  Loosely is the key word here beacuse you don't want jagged creases--think beach hair, only for the winter.  A loose bun at the nap of the neck also works well because once you reach your destination you can untwist your bun or briads and you'll have wavey hair that will hide any awkward dents.  Sandra Bullock and Naomi Watts are wearing cute patterned cabbie caps with their hair in a low bun.  It looks great in transit and once you pull it out it out, you've got easy-going look that is funky, like Jessica Simpson's.

The last, and my favorite, option for avoiding winter hat hair is to choose a hat that you can wear all day!  Depending on your place of employment or school dress codes, there are hats that you can wear through out the day with little issues.  The best options for all day wear are hats with brims, such as cabbie hats, cloches, fedoras, or newsboy hats because they're more slick and professional.  The slouchy knit hats are really cute but some people may give you strange looks if you're sporting one in a business meeting.  Miley Cyrus looks so adorable with her brimmed knit cap, it could totally be worn comfortably all day.  If you ignore Camaron Diaz's gawdy makeup, her purple fedora is spot on.   It's hip and adds a spot of color in our gray days. I like her sidepony too, it looks last minute and innocent yet sexy.

Hopefully, all your winter hat hair disasters haven't been too terrible, but now you can rock hats with more confidence.
