Issue 21:
Featured Event of the Week: Rosemount Australian Fashion Week
There is a reason why Melbourne hosted the Olympics in 1956, 44 years before arch-nemesis Sydney. Could you imagine anything but grainy black and white representing Melbourne? Our boulevards, trams and city should permanently be viewed in black and white, particularly on an overcast day whilst sipping coffee, staring at the grey sea, reading Baudelaire in black and white. Melbournians have an innate aversion to explosive colour not to mention the neon-glare of the future; it clashes with our environment and adds to the pain of 3pm sugar-low headaches. We leave the colour wheel to the candy ravers and Hi-5. Melbourne boasts a thriving population of Goths, Sicilian grandmothers, Greek widows and disaffected art students. Black is black. Is black. We are masters of the monochrome...read more.

TREND REPORT: Man-Style Pants
| Could this be the one trend to finally knock skinny jeans off their perch, high up in the fashionista tree? Hmmm, perhaps... With the amount of exposure this shape got during RAFW, I'd be surprised if the majority of people reading this blog were not wearing a pair right now!...read more.

DESIGNER REVIEW: Lisa Ho
Lisa Ho's collection for the coming summer was shiny, light and chic – with a relaxed fit in mainly creams, light greys, charcoals, dark blues and lilac.
Once again, waisted pants and shorts were strong, as were sheer fabrics and incorporated metallic tones. Perfect for business-to-night were blazers in light fabrics, sleeveless overcoats, below the knee tailored shorts, wide leg and straight leg trousers and long belted cardigans...read more.

INTERVIEW: Michael Bracewell
Bracewell is one of those designer names that everyone knows. It is well established and never fails to deliver good quality clothes that are always in style, and that is the very reason that Bracewell is so well-adored.
2threads took the opportunity to talk to the man who started it all, Michael Bracewell, about how it all began, where it’s headed and his new venture, Penny Arcade.
First of all, how did the label come about?
I had several labels in the 1980’s and by 1988 felt confident and accomplished enough to establish stores and trade under my own name.
You’ve come a long way since your humble beginnings at the Paddington Markets, what do you think has been your biggest challenge so far?...read more.

RIDICULOUS: LOUIS VUITTON
hmm, nice one Louis Vuitton.
Nadia Plesner, an artist who recently produced a range of t-shirts featuring designs promoting 'simple living' is being sued by Louis Vuitton for using an image likened to their famous Speedy Murakami handbag. (See image below).
Ok. So perhaps Plesner has used an image that 'looks' like a Murakami bag, however she isn't profiting from this, unlike the thousands of counterfeit bag makers throughout Asia who use LV's design to turn a dollar. Plesner is simply raising awareness of the genocide occuring in Darfur, Sudan as we speak. Currently (and these stats are not 100% as they are difficult to verify) up to 500 000 people (mainly innocent civilians) have been killed...read more.
