Fashion News: Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival: Runway show #2 by nicoledora

The second runway show for Melbourne Fashion Festival happened on Tuesday, featuring the designers ANT!PODiUM, Arnsdorf, Dion Lee, ELLERY, Friedrich Gray, Gary Bigeni, Romance Was Born and Therese Rawsthorne.

The show was presented by Vogue Australia, with a very special mention to stylist Meg Gray who brought these designers from very different ends of the fashion sphere together. With the frivolity of Antipodium and Romance was Born, the darkness evoked from Friedrich Gray and Gary Bigeni, the urban rock and roll attitude from ELLERY and the romantic sensibilities from Therese Rawsthorne and Arnsdorf, the show was an eclectic but beautiful mix of fashion.

Thanks to Melbourne Fashion Festival, many fashion labels are getting in on the fun, putting on shows and events around the city. Metalicus and Forever 21 showed everyone what they were made of and even Madonna is getting involved.

While I enjoyed the sportswear for its simple design and use of layering, it is hard for me to think of Metalicus as anything other then that – a nice sportswear label. The dresses have been done and were teetering on the edge of Cotton On standards. The layering of a black cut out dress on top of a bright blue top was effective but then ruined with grey tartan stockings – I’m all for clashing colours but the ensemble looked really striking without patterned stockings distracting us.

For the Melboure Fashion Festival, Myer presented the best of winter fashion and had face of Myer Jennifer Hawkins showing it all off.

Military was given a glamour makeover, with Hawkins wearing a Tony Maticevski dress I actually like. Cute little soldier boy hats were worn to drive the trend home, completed with Hawkins leading her own power posse of marching girls. Again, boots made an appearance – the thigh high boot looked amazing but when pairing a man-ish looking ankle boot with faux fur dresses and French inspired pieces it looked a little too blunt for the pretty ensembles (that might just be me – I am the fussiest when it comes to boots). Leather was featured – bright red and blue leather pieces matched with a floral print on soft fabrics and finished off with electric blue pumps.

Sass and Bide ruled the runway, showcasing pieces from their S/S 2010 collection – metal detailing revealed a tribal influence with symmetrical shapes to create beautiful form. Fashion News: Loreal Melbourne Fashion festival: Penthouse Mouse pop up shop by nicoledora

Penthouse Mouse is a pop up shop with a difference that is running alongside Melbourne Fashion Festival. Organisers for the event have successfully fused fashion with art together in an oversized warehouse - peeps can pop in to have a look at live photo shoots and runway shows, as well as instillations, all in the name of exposing emerging creative’s to the public.

The line up of young designers that PHM have gathered is pretty impressive, from clothing labels OK OK, Limedrop and Melanie Bower as well as accessories labels Gail Sorronda, Kyoko Osato and Estelle Deve. The labels stocked range from monochrome to bright colours as well as a variety of styles. Structural form and intricate shapes from Trimapee to clean lines and urban tailoring from the menswear label autonomy.
