Turn off that mobile phone, get away from that computer and tune into the tranquillity that Mother Nature has to offer. Yosemite National Park is the perfect get away place from city life. Yosemite National Park is located four hours east of San Francisco. The best way to get here is by driving where you can hire a rental car at an inexpensive cost from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. This will let you travel at your pace allowing you to make all the pit-stops you need.

Approaching Yosemite National Park, the roads become more winding so you may need to slow down and drive carefully. But this will also give you the chance to enjoy the change in scenery from tall city buildings to mountainous rock formations surrounded by plenty of greenery.

Indulge at the Ahwahnee Hotel, a place that you would think has just come out from an American movie. It is the perfect setting for a Christmas winter holiday where you can just imagine the exterior of the hotel being covered in a blanket of snow while people are kept cosy inside as they enjoy reading a good book in front of the grand fireplace in the Great Lounge. Its tall ceilings and the lingering smell of pine will make you wish you could stay there for forever.

But here at Yosemite you can also do camping the real way – campfires, tents and all that jazz. You’ll need to book in advance as there are specific areas that are dedicated for all you campers. If you’re lucky you may also bump into bears that usually get hungry and come out for a wander looking for food. They may seem friendly but beware they are wild animals!

There are plenty of outdoorsy adventures that will keep you busy at Yosemite including hiking, biking and horseback riding. But one thing you wouldn’t want to miss though is going up to Glacier Point. Being 914 metres high you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world as the entire Yosemite Valley can be seen from this point. Every angle you look the view will be so astonishing it will feel surreal. Being here is like nothing you could get in Australia because the whole atmosphere is so traditionally “American” so take in as much as you can and enjoy it.
