Women's Ready To Wear #1 Day 1 RAFW
Five designers collaborated together to produce a spectactular runway presentation of women's ready to wear clothing, on the first day of RAFW. The designers show casing their collections were Annah Stretton, Dizingof, SU, Pizzuto and Anaessia. Whilst some labels stood out from the rest, each collection presented a unique direction into women's wear and the talents of emerging Australian designers.
Annah Stretton opened the show, and with a collection that was as exciting as this, I wouldn't of minded if Annah Stretton was the only label showing! Soft pinks, ultra-femme detail (yes more ruffles- are we seeing a trend here?) adorned floating, youthful dresses, contrasted against biker-chic accessories. Black leather gloves, and black biker jackets worked so well with the lighter colour palette and delicate detail of the garments, all topped off with a serving of hard edged heels.
Next to grace the runway was Dizingof. And what a performance it was! Two of the models started the show with a martial arts inspired dance and/or fight. It was a little hard to tell between dancing and fighting as both girls were leaping in the air and prancing around- it was quite a show! The staged model fight was followed by an Asian inspired collection- garments were reminiscent of Japanese kimonos and traditional martial arts fighting wear. This collection was very structured, and featured a lot of rigid panels and bold block colours.
SU and Pizzuto came out in parade next. SU retained a highly feminine collection throughout, violets and denim worked together (more ruffles featured!), with draped silk throughout. Pizzuto played it safe this collection with a more corporate feel to their designs. High waisted pencil skirts worked with cropped jackets and were finished with tiny little hats topped to the side.
Ended the show with a twist of design difference, was label Anaessia. Are skulls the next big trend in print? According to the audience reaction to Anaessia's skull printed dresses they just may well be. This is a promising label, with a distincr feminine approach twisted with harder edge detail. The bubble skirt has been popping up in many RAFW collections, and it featured again in Anaessia. Is this trend making a come back too? Anaessia chose to structure their skirts with skirt loops- adding some bounce to the models step.
All the images from the Women's Ready to Wear #1 are coming soon! Stay tuned.
