What lies beneath

If you had a sticky beak into my wardrobe a few years ago to what lingerie was present, the sexiest items you would find would have been my black g strings. However, the jaw dropping stops there. My entire "lingerie" wardrobe would consist of black Bonds cotton G strings and plain black Bendon bras. No frills, no fuss and definitely no lacy, come thither lolita styled ensembles. That's right, I would buy and wear the same style undies. Similarly with my bras. Christ almighty, I thought my world had come to an end when they had discontinued the style I wore prior to switching to the Brendon range. I would buy the same black bra in quantities of 5 or more to save me having to go back. My thought process was 1) that I wasn't a girly girl 2) black would go with everything as I couldn't to be bothered planning out so that my underwear wardrobe would match my clothes wardrobe. Additionally, I figured black undies with black bras was good enough in the matching stakes. Furthermore, I had a long term boyfriend so I did not need to turn up the wow factor to have him in the bag, if you know what I mean.

Lucky for you readers, my taste in preferred delicates has evolved since and thus my knowledge too has improved if ever so slightly. Otherwise this article would be quite boring. As life would have it, I was forced to reconsider what I had my underwear draw and at times really debate what I wore and whom I wore it for. As you see I was no longer with my long term boyfriend who was accustomed to the safe, comfortable and practical black on black cotton. Along with minus boyfriend, I also had my very first bra fitting. Ladies, do yourself a favour and go see Susan at David Jones on Elizabeth St. Lo and behold I was wearing the wrong size and I was informed so many of us women are. So now I not only had motive but good reasons to enhance my lingerie wardrobe.

Depending on what you like, what your intended audience likes and your intended outcome there is a whole world of lingerie out there to satisfy your every whim, dream or role playing. Ranging from lacy teddies, cut out panties, edible bras to whole suspender contraptions and everything in between. If you want kink, visit an adult store but please the instructions. If you want class, visit Pleasure State at Myer. If you want classy kink visit www.agentprovocateur.com. Agent Provocateur provides oh so sexy lingerie to the stars. Even Kylie lends her image and famous gold hot pants wearing tush to the Agent Provocateur's wares. Refer to toe curling TV ad of Kylie ferociously riding a fur lined mechanic bull in said lingerie.

If you are a novice in the smalls department, start out ..well small. Try well known brands such as Elle Macpherson or Calvin Klein. Even designers who did not historically produce lingerie have recently tried their hand at it, namely Sass & Bide and Willow. Their range tends to be more fashion focus, blurring the lines between inner and outter wear.  If you are price point conscious, don't fret. You can pick up some very sexy apparel from Lovable, Kayser or even Bonds produce the Bonds' Intimate Collection of very wearable pieces which will get you hot under the collar (if you were wearing one that is). More good news for the average consumer, with the trend of high end designers putting out a more affordable line in Target department stores we saw Collette Dinnigan following suit. Her lingerie line was stocked on Target racks earlier this year.

When choosing the actual garments, take baby steps. Select styles that suit your personality, something that you will feel comfortable in and something that accentuates what your mama gave you. That is precisely what I did. I chose simple prints in quality fabrics. I did indulged in the odd ribbon, some scantily placed lace and even matching panties. For a girl who only wore black cotton underwear previously, this was a huge step but I was ready to commit.  The important thing was I chose shapes and style that would fit and flatter my body. There is nothing worse than wearing something that digs into you, that you're constantly pulling at or hurt by the end of the day. These same rules applies to anything you wear or anyone you date.

While I have not had the courage or urge to buy anything that had the word edible on the tag or anything requiring another person to help me into. It is not to say that you don't. Please feel free to try and have some fun. Whatever floats your boat. Just a word of warning, plastic does not breathe and be wary of strategically placed hooks, chain and other metal objects.
