Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham has attended a red carpet event wearing shoes that not only boggle the mind - they force her weight onto the front of her foot, like a ballerina releve. The Antonio Berardi boots she was showing off feature an extended platform but no actual heel. Trendsetter, possibly, but with this trend maybe not so much!

The boots themselves are 14cm high and not exactly versatile. "It is really a red carpet shoe, just like Victoria Beckham has worn them," said Monica Silva, who works in the Marc Jacobs store in Sydney that sells a similar heel-less shoe. "The whole weight of your body is going to be on the ball of your foot. It is not uncomfortable, but you have to get used to wearing them. It is different from a thick healed shoe or a stiletto where the weight is more distributed."

You would think this must be painful, right? Or even the problems that it could effect those who wear these unsupportive shoes.  Dr Simon Floreani from the Chiropractors' Association of Australia said a lack of heel stabilisation in a shoe could have an impact on certain muscle groups. "They are probably a fad that won't last long," he said of the trend. "In all reality, they're a 15 minute wear. You can only walk around on your tip toes for about 15 minutes."

Well, blame Marc Jacobs for the"look ma, no heels!” trend. It started with his spring/summer ‘08  heels, where the heels were backwards.

Then Berardi and Stella McCartney one-upped him, showing heel-less shoes and boots in their collections. Stars including Gwyneth Paltrow and Uma Thurman invested in a black pair of Berardi’s heel-less shoe shortly after they were unveiled in his spring/summer collection in Paris last year.

Imagine towering over on  heels or for this matter no heels at all . . . what in the world will fashion will come up with next?  Do you think you can stand these shoes?
