Vanessa Hudgens, Hayden Panettierre and other celebrities wearing the braided hair trend is one that I'm always happy to see weave itself back into the scene.  Some celebs have opted for the super easy braided pigtail/milkmaid look this fall.  The style may remind people of their childhood or Pippy Longstocking, but if you throw a winter hat on, this trend becomes more sophisticated and hip.

Some celebrities wearing braided hair trend: Vanessa Hudgens' loose pigtail braids look effortless and the hat adds an urban vibe.  Lindsay Lohan's style is easy-going and her milkmaid braids showcase her funkiness.  I love her slouchy beanie, it's stylish and ecomonical in the winter.  Gwenith Paltrow's young daughter might have influenced her look here.  It's a little childish but it's quick and out of her face.

There are other ways to twist up your hairstyle with braids.  If you're looking for something a litle more sleek, try a front horizontal braid like Hayden Panettiere and Mary-Kate Olsen, or slick back your hair into a braided bun like Sarah Jessica Parker.

I've been braiding my hair a lot more often lately and, as a bonus, braids give my hair funky waves when I take them out.  What's your take on this zigzag hair trend?  If you love it, here are some tips:

For milkmaid braids: If you have really long hair, wear your braids semi-loose rather than perfectly tight and leave at least an inch to two inches of hair below the band.  If you have medium length hair, stick with the semi-loose braid but try to begin the braid higher on your hair line, ideally slightly above and behind your ears.  The band should be half and inch to and inch up your hair.  Personally, I never go with out a hat because I don't want to feel like a four-year-old, but that's your call.

Sleek braids: If you want to sass up your night-out-on-the-town hairstyle with braids, go for originality.  The best bet would be to start with towel dried hair because damp hair is easier to braid with.  If you don't know how to french braid your own hair (see Hair Braiding Basics below or), invite a girlfriend over who can and get ready together.  You can't go wrong with braids but make sure to sprintz on the hairspray.
