Now I may get shot for saying so but....I generally dislike all things Australian. I hate it when people refer to celebrities who were born in Aus as "our". Nicole Kidman is not ours and neither is Princess Mary! I hate Kochie and his declaration that many silly things are "un-Australian". If David Koch is Australian then I don't want to be. I do, however, love Vegemite and VB and I love love love AFL.
When I first heard of Kath and Kim I turned up my nose and did not tune in. However, I do believe, after becoming a fan of the show, that that was snobby me talking. The person who will not watch Star Wars with the person she loves so much, even if it his favourite, for fear of wrath and scorn. I once watched five minutes of Lord of the Kings and have never wasted my time since. Snobby me is the person who, in some instances, does not give things a fair go. I will not watch any sci-fi crap- I'm sorry I mean- anything sci-fi because of my preconceived notion that I will hate it. In other aspects of life I will give things a fair go (I love the colour yellow but hate it on me. Once a tried on a yellow shirt) but in regards to TV and movies I will not put a toe outside of my comfort zone. I did it once with war films (which make me cry and shake uncontrollably) and I am not doing that again!
Anyway, my point (sorry for the rambling)... I judged Kath and Kim once and it was a big mistake. I finally tuned in late last year when it was on Seven (I think it was last year) and I loved it so much. I'm still trying to decide who my favourite actually is and its like trying to choose between who I am more like out of Samantha, Carrie or Charlotte. I can not decide, it is too difficult because I do see bits of myself in Kim (I am the biggest complainer) but the clothes kind of turn me off, though they are hilarious! And I love Kath who is beyond funny and kind of a cool mother, if she does resemble a poodle.
So, because of this I refuse to judge the US version of Kath and Kim. Unlike articles I have read in the past couple of days I will not condem it. One thing I do not understand is why so many people are complaining that America stole "our" show when we steal plenty of theirs. And, technically, it is not stealing. We all have to pay rights for something someone else created.
Also, the first foxy ladies are involved with the production of the show, are they not? So what's the big deal!
Here is a first glimpse at the US mother and daughter duo:

Molly Shannon as Kath and Selma Blair as Kim.
Their "fashion sense" may be similar but their looks are very different. Selma declared to have put on weight for the role. If there's any fat on that girl I don't see it but the g-string peeping out is strinkgly similar to her counterpart Gina Riley's, Kim.
Many newspaper articles have been glaringly negative towards the US version. Take a look at some articles about the upcoming show here:

Most people seem pretty set in their minds that the show will be crap but I say ignore them all and judge for yourself. Molly Shannon is always hilarious and while most people might recognise Blair from Cruel Intentions I remember her fondly from The Sweetest Thing when she was just as funny.
The show will feature on NBC's Fall line up on October 9,2008. I'm not really sure when, or if, it will come to Australia but if anyone knows please let me know.
Check out the show's NBC website here: www.nbc.com/Primetime/Kath_and_Kim/index.shtml
There's not much on there as of yet but once the show airs I'm sure more will come.
From what I've seen the show looks to be very noice.
What does everyone else think? Will the show be awful? Did American steal "our" show? Should Kath and Kim stay in Fountain Lakes?

Frockstar
However, I wouldn't consider America stealing "our" show. Give it a go I say, but don't hold your breath waiting for a hit TV show.
