Trend: Heel-less boots

Head over heel-less?

The late Yves Saint Laurent once stated that “fashions fade, (but) style is eternal” and while I am reluctant to give men credit for much these days, never has a man been so exact in his declaration.

For those not blessed with the style gene at the time of inception, which is most likely to be the majority of the population, following a fashion trend can go from fabulous to full-blown failure in a flat second! What a horrifying thought!

At the Fall ’08 Ready-to-Wear collections in Paris designer Antonio Berardi showcased the ‘heel-less boot’- a thigh high, black latex, almost 14cm from the ground platform boot without a heel. I finally get the knack for pounding the pavement in my 4inch heels and designers decide to abolish the heel all together! It breaks my haute couture heart.

In all honesty, my fondness for this fashion fad falls short; Victoria Beckham took to the red carpet in New York recently, flaunting her flair for walking on her tip-toes and whilst such a style may work for the catwalk or a magazine fashion spread, the stiletto reigns supreme in the real world.

So will you be head over heel-less next season?
