The Edge: Fashion @ Fed Square

Melbourne is good for a lot of things…shopping, food, coffee, street art, quaint streets, heck even the trams are pretty cool, but one thing I absolutely love about Melbourne, being a Sydney gal myself, is that fashion events are so accessible. No wonder the city has style.

There is so much less fashion-wankery in Melbourne that it truly puts Sydney to shame. A fashion event for the people in Sydney is relatively unheard of, unless it’s some down and out label trying it’s utmost to get a bit of Sydney street cred. Fashion events in Sydney usually mean industry only, strict RSVP rules, door lists, queues and other painstaking situations (ie being subjected to innane 'I'm oh-so-fashion conversations').

With the arrival of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, Wednesday 3rd presented fashion lovin’ Melburnians with The Edge: Fashion @ Fed Square. Tickets were available at the door for a mere $15 meaning average folk could witness a sliver of fashion. The parade paid homage to the best and edgiest fashion design that Melbourne has to offer.

As it's not just the bug buck earners, the media peeps and those in fashion industry who have a love for fashion, events like this epitomise what fashion should be. While some are fortunate enough to have wardrobe full of spectacular fashion pieces without a second thought, others save up their measley dollars for that awesome pair of shoes, to die for jacket or so beautiful it hurts dress. Fashion should never forget the little guys, pity it so often does.
