My favourite fashion trends for the summer

The sun is out and the heat has arrived, surf’s up! With climate change being a major issue and debate in the political election, it is important for us, the public, to be aware of the precautions that scientists as well as intelligent celebrities who are voicing out awareness of global warming and with that come responsibilities of slip, slop, slap!

This season must have is a pair of Ray Ban’s Wayfarers. I love it when old things come back in season. The Wayfarers comes in a range of colours, but this season try different colours to mix and match or even clash with your outfit to give your face the added lift of appearance. Red is popular as seen with Sienna Miller and Heath Ledger. Aside from the retro Wayfarers, bug-eye sunnies have toned down a notch, smaller rounded frames will give you a better shape of your face than the over-size sunnies that makes your head appears smaller.

This summer is all about colours! Light tangerine orange, environmentally friendly green, white, yellow and a splash of blue. My personal favourite summer trend would have to be cotton singlet top with white shorts and a pair of the new summer range of Havaianas, while lying on the sand at the beach. But if you’re going for the casual summer look, you can’t go wrong with the White shirt dress, fitted nicely with a wide brown leather belt. To save money, borrow dad’s white business shirt, just make sure not to stain it! The bigger the size the better.

A fashion OUT are leggings. Finally, we are able to show off our bare legs without hiding it behind tights. I for one peeved when girls wear three quarters leggings with boots that shows skin between the two clothing, it is not a good look.

Speaking of shoes, metallic heels are in and go with any outfit. Peep toes heels, wedges, tie up scandals are great for the summer. I’m not a fan of the plastic scandals nor Crocs.

The usual mini dress and skirts are a favourite to beat the summer heat wave, and also introducing the long hip-hugging bohemian-pattern dress that is massively popular with designers, a great way to dress your legs for the self conscious gals. Check out cute Maxi dresses at Just Jeans for a great steal!

Coming back to the issue of awareness of climate change, remember to wear sunscreen regularly, and wear a hat or stay out of the sun. And the best way to get a tan is a fake tan – Spray on!

My top five must have for the season:

• One teaspoon sunnies – Jamie Blakey (designer) has teamed up with Le Specs to create a range of ultra cool 80’s style sunnies, I’m loving the pastel colours!
• Zimmerman’s bikinis – are always on the money when it comes to style, I say no more.
• The white shirt dress from Jigsaw – cool and casual, just the thing for summer
• A metallic zip top over the shoulder bag with the added long chain doubles up as a necklace accessory look for any occasion.
• The cancer council – Everyday 30+ Sunscreen, I honestly do carry this around everywhere in my handbag.
