This year Flemington was stepping back in time – as the racegoers returned to classic trackside fashion.

There was a prominent re-emergence of the hat (with fascinators being well and truly out this season) and flirtatious references to fashions from the past. This included variations on the 1920s flapper dress and the 1960s A-line trapeze shape dresses – both short styles that feature lots of leg. But in tune with the more conservative trend, there was far less cleavage on display this year. And the most common accessory after the hat was fake tan.
