Saving the environment one dress at a time
Saving the environment doesn’t mean picking up dirty, filthy, germ lurking, rat infested rubbish with your polished bare hands. You don’t have to trudge through mud and dingy-smelly water with your clean clothes and start fishing out shopping trolleys and boots from lakes and creeks. You don’t have to be one of those energy efficient freaks that yell disapprovingly at people for leaving ONE light on, and you definitely don’t have to be one of those tree hugging hippies that tie themselves with metal chains around trees carrying home made protest signs- by the way they are made out of paper- yelling profanities at the general public, while looking like a crazy person.
All you have to do is this one simple step:
KEEP YOUR OLD CLOTHES AND REUSE THEM PEOPLE!
We live in a fashion dominated society that is always competing to have the most exquisite and the most unique outfit. This harsh ‘Devil Wears Prada’ lifestyle is booming Australia’s 1.7 billion dollar fashion industry.
We are buying more clothes then ever before, this in turn causing more waste then ever before. We are deemed a wasteful society.
The constant buying is demanding valuable resources from our precious eco-system. Approximately 900,000 million items of clothing are sent to landfill every year. Just look at the charity clothing bins over flowing with waste.
Discarded hats and thongs are the new road kill.
But the most common problem that fashion lovers face today is the ‘once only’ habit. The belief that wearing something more then once is the ultimate fashion taboo.
Now is the time to act and take a fashionable stance in saving our environment.
I the once clothes waster has now become like Captain Planet but rather a more fashionable icon. I have now
‘The op-shop fanatic.’
I buy your second hand clothing and alter them to meet societites needs and wants.
The clothes that are found at op-shops are very unique indesign so you won't be wearing the same clothes as anyone else. They are also very cheap in price so fashion lovers will never be short of cash.
These once rare and unusual stores are now in huge demand because not only do they provide the latest fashion but they are a place to express yourself environmentally. These stores promote the recycling of clothing. Making the old into new again.
So keep your old clothes and change them. You won't be deemed a freak, however admired for wearing something different.
Wear what you want. Do what you want. Be fashion friendly.
