Approaching San Diego in a cab watching the tall structured buildings of the second largest city in California, draw nearer and nearer feels like being back in Sydney - the roads are not enormously large, there are plenty of one-ways and it is right on a harbour.

This place throws some killer parties and it all happens in the Gaslamp District, located centrally in the city and takes up about four blocks so you have plenty of choices as to how you want to party it up with the good looking Americans. Every direction you turn your head, there are a bunch of pretty ladies dressed in their finest outfits and a group of good looking boys just chasing after them. So to fit in, just put on a great outfit and hop in line of a club. Surprisingly enough, in San Diego, there are lines even to get into their pubs (or what the locals like to call ‘dive bars’).

The Gaslamp District also has some fancy restaurants suitable for any tastebud but if you’re missing the good Aussie pub grub like bangers and mash with real beer, then you can’t miss Bondi Bar & Kitchen. Essentially everything in the restaurant is Australian, from the owners, to the kitchen staff to the waiters and even the wood that is used to build the tables from; you’ll feel right at home here! And it’s always great to be greeted with a ‘g’day mate’ in the Australian accent after hearing what I’m sure is the millionth time, an American trying to imitate the saying in their version of an Australian accent.

After a big night out escape to Balboa Park, America’s largest urban culture park, with 15 museums located all around. If museums aren’t your thing, take a walk just around the park and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the place that has been built around amazing architectural designs.

Balboa Park is also home to San Diego Zoo, a place not just for the animal lovers. You are welcomed into the park with the friendly smiles of the zoo keepers who you’ll need to help guide you in the right direction because this place is huge! Any zoo around Australia does not compare to this place - the amount of animals you’ll see here, particularly the different species of birds and monkeys, will just make you wonder what other animals are out there and haven’t been discovered. They even have a section dedicated to Australian animals. I think the Americans just can’t get enough the Aussies in this city!

For jam-pack excitement SeaWorld is just a drive away. It’s very much like SeaWorld on the Gold Coast except this is the ori-gi-nal, the place where you can get close and personal with the famous killer whale, Shamu.

Pacific Beach should be your final stop in San Diego. You’ll be able to stroll along here at night as you feel the coolness of the sand squish between your toes and as you listen to the crashing of the waves against the shore. But don’t go back to your hotel room when you reach the end of your walk, take the pleasure of grabbing a feed at one of the numerous restaurants along the beach. One of favourite local restaurant is World Famous, best known for its creamy and meaty lobster tacos. Enjoy!
