Pit Stop to Philly

‘Philly’, the city of Brotherly Love, the birthplace of America, is a great place to make a pit stop at and stretch those legs after spending strenuous hours sitting in a car.

Philadelphia was the place where Thomas Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence for the country. It is also home to the Liberty Bell, a popular monument of the city, representative of freedom and of course liberty [duh!]. So with plenty of history behind this place there is lot to learn from.

But really Philly is only good for two things – shopping and food.

Philly may not necessarily be New York, but it is a shopper’s paradise – clothes and shoes are tax free, throughout Pennsylvania. So, what are you waiting for? Get shopping! Shop ‘til you drop between Walnut and Swanson Street, the main shopping strips in the city. With plenty of familiar chain stores insight, there is no doubt that you won’t get a thrill out of this shopping trip, weaving in and out of each store.

Exhausting yourself from this stopover, you’ll need a good feed afterwards and you can’t leave Philadelphia without having the city’s signature dish – a Philly cheese steak. These things populate the streets during lunch hour like kebabs do during midnight and can be found virtually everywhere. So your question is – what is it? It is shredded marinated beef that is barbequed on a grill while slices of Americanised cheese are melted on top. All of it is removed in a single scoop using a spatula and dumped into a warm bread roll along with some sautéed onions and your choice of sauces before being wrapped into butcher’s paper for you.
