Phantom of the Opera Review

No one could argue that Anthony Warlow has to be one of the greatest performers of all time. His performance in Phantom of the Opera was so moving, giving a real sense of connection with his character, the phantom of the theatre.

Ana Maria who played Christine, a young singer who captures the heart of the phantom is outstanding particularly as a relatively new stage performer.

The costumes were elaborate, created by the late Maria Björnson. The stage props were intense. One scene where the phantom takes the young soprano singer to his home. The scene included them floating across the stage in a small boat. The chandelier, one of the centerpieces of the story hung high in the lyric theatre, crashing at precisely the right moment during the performance.

The story, is of a theatre haunted by a passionate ghost who falls in love with a performer. It has been 11 years since the production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece has been performed here in Sydney.

Regardless if you like musical theatre, this is a must see. Dare I admit, I was moved to tears more than once.
