In anticipation of the July 5 (in Australia) release of Sex and the City: The Movie we take a look back at the past fashion of Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York (Goldenblatt) and Miranda Hobbes.

Carrie Bradshaw:

Season One: Carrie in a vintage fur coat. It can be worn two ways: full length and or as a jacket.

Season Two: Carrie in a plain singlet and her famous nameplate necklace.

Season Three: Carrie shows off her latest Manolo purchase: a silk plaid buckle mule.

Season Four: Carrie in a Dolce and Gabbana form-fitting floral sheath dress.

Season Five: Carrie in a 1920's sequined flapper's dress teamed with a vintage velvet swing coat. Shoes by Manolo Blahnik and a tweed Chanel clutch.

Season Six: Carrie in a silk Calvin Klein dress and a floral coat from Sarah Jessica Parker's own closet. With platform shoes by Mui Mui and a vintage Dior enevelope.

Samantha Jones:

Season One: Samantha in a fur-trimmed day suit, front-row at a fashion show.

Season Two: Samantha in a strapless lame' gown by Pamela Dennis, channeling the Hollywood screen sirens.

Season Three: Samantha in sherbert coloured seperates from Michael Kors. Shoes by Manolo Blahnik and patent tote by Louis Vuitton.

Season Four: Samantha in a hot pink pantsuit by Emmanel Ungaro and classic quilted Chanel tote.

Season Five: Samantha in a bold abstract Missoni mini: the perfect pool party cover up.

Season Six: Samantha in a form-fitting Ungaro purple top and a bold stone necklace by Versace.

Charlotte York:

Season One: Charlotte in tweed sperates from Tocca (Carrie is also pictured).

Season Two: Charlotte in a plunging black halter gown by Richard Tyler looking every part the sexy bridesmaid.

Season Three: Charlotte at her first wedding in a Vera Wang strapless dress.

Season Four: Charlotte in a vintage embroidered white cotton summer frock by Amarcord Vintage Fashion with a leather "bow" belt.

Season Five: Charlotte in a shearling jacket by Christian Lacroix.

Season Six: Charlotte in an "All-American" ensemble: a brown tweed Ralph Lauren jacket and Levis jeans.

Miranda Hobbes

Season One: Miranda in black and white stripes from Club Monaco (Carrie is also pictured).

Season Two: Miranda as her usual no-nonsense self in a double-breasted military style jacket with a classic ribbed turtleneck.

Season Three: Miranda in a hand-painted geometric Aztec pattern dress by Moschino.

Season Four: Miranda, pregnant, in a multicolored Jean Paul Gaultier halter dress.

Season Five: Miranda, on her first long break from baby Brady, on a bus to Atlantic City reading The New Yorker. While you can only just see her cardigan she wears comfortable, stretchy clothes that hide her post-baby weight.

Season Six: Miranda shows she is a yummy mummy in a print halter dress by Versace.

The End: Carrie returns from Paris in a mini-sweater dress by TSE under a white Vera Wang coat. Miranda warms up in a Tartan patterned Rachel Robards coat and Christian Louboutin boots, while Charlotte wears a checkered coat by Mary Quaint and white go go boots by Tods. Samantha carries a stand-out fur bag by Carlos Falcchi.

So, while we wait not so patiently for the SATC movie to see what has happened to the girls' over the course of four years (do Carrie and Mr. Big make it work?) we also do the same to see what each girl wears. While some of the fashion was crazy and quirky, most of it made the character's who they were and warmed our hearts.
