Patricia Field Designs for Myer.
After watching a clip on YouTube about my fellow flame-haired fox Patricia Field the other day, I wondered two things: How does she keep her hair looking so vibrant? And, where the hell did this styling ability come from? For those of you living under a serious rock, Patricia Field is the designer responsible for our obsession with the fashions of SATC, The Devil Wears Prada, Ugly Betty and Cashmere Mafia. On October 16 she released her own fabulous line into the 65 Myer stores around Australia. I went & checked it out at my "local" in Melbourne CBD and this is what I found: cap sleeves, cinched waists, bubble hems, cut dresses, sequins, leopard print, fuschia pink, purple and green print (together!), trench coats, velvet florals, snake skin belts & one amazing feature print of many clashed fabrics shown on scarves, blouses and oversized bags (this bag is my fave as it caters to my desire for everything I own to be 3x bigger than necessary). To top it all off, there is what I like to call, THE CENTREPIECE: a black side-gathered, one-armed dress with the most glorious silver and gold rose perched on one shoulder, for all us tragics who oohed and aahed our way through that SATC scene of Carrie strutting down some tourist strip in Manhattan in the same creation. The line is appropriately titled "Destination Style New York" and very reasonably priced, like a pair of jeans for $99! Thats only $9 more than a pair of Cheap Mondays! Destination Style New York is the next fashion conquest for Ms Field who has already designed collections for Barbie, Payless, ASOS and wait for it, Coca-Cola in Great Britain! (Getting a bit greedy, you might say?) Unfortunately, she's already becoming the victim of some nasty predictions that the line will flop by fashionistas who werent at all fond of her past lines, particularly one released in her stores in New York which was labelled as being similar to the wardrobe of a "PVC-clad hooker". For my own prediction, I have a nagging feeling that her stuff will prevail regardless of what it looks like. Lets all think back to the Stella McCartney for Target launch which closely resembled the stampede from Jumanji. Now that everybody is a material girl living in a material world, apparently all we need is a label, and we look hot. As for Pat's next diary note, what's next? World domination??? Interesting......
