New York - Part 2.

The only way you’ll be able to get the best view of New York is to head up what once was the tallest structure of the city, the Empire State Building. It was on top of this very building that the beloved Meg Ryan was whisked away by Tom Hanks at their fatal meeting in the movie, Sleepless in Seattle. Oh how romantic!

You can live your own fairytale by heading up the tower and watch the sunset from here, that way you get the best of both worlds; the view of the city – day and night. It is the perfect time as the clear blue sky is just mellowing down and on the horizon line you’ll be able to see the hint of hazy orange appearing as sunset approaches. But there is still plenty of light for you to take a daytime shot of the city without the glare of the sun in your eyes.

Being up here will be like extracting yourself from city life for a bit. You’ll feel almost like God looking down from heaven as everything down below will look like crawling ants. You’ll also recognise other monuments of the city like the Chrysler Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and in a distant you may even recognise the Statue of Liberty.

Within minutes as you watch the sun inch away into darkness, you’ll begin to see the city lights slowly switching on. And before you know it, the city will be twinkling in bright lights while the clear night sky sets in.

If you can withstand cold, January will be the best season to come and visit the city because tourist spots like the Empire State Building will be easier for you to get into. You can buy tickets online in advance at www.empirestatebuilding.com but even still, during peak season the lines do literally extend over several floors but if you come during winter, you’ll breeze past and be up top in no time!
