Multi chain necklaces

Multi chain necklaces are one trend that keeps popping up for fall, with everyone from MK Olsen to Naomi Watts embracing the layered look.

It’s a bold, intriguing look that creates drama, demands attention, and harks back to the days when you were a kid and playing in your mum’s jewelry box.

A number of designers are putting out some amazing, one of a kind necklaces comprising of a number of chains layered into one piece. Alternatively, single necklace sales are being replaced by the purchase of dozens of a designer’s necklaces at a time (designed to be worn together). Nice – if you can afford it!

For the rest of us, there are ways to achieve this look that are not only easier on the budget –they will ensure the end result is yours and yours only.

The first place to look is, of course, your own jewelry box. You want to pick strands with different lengths to create some interest – try looping longer chains over to create new lengths. Piling up similar chains can create a standout look, but don’t be afraid to mix it up – a delicate strand of pearls could contrast beautifully amongst heavier gold chains.

High street stores such as H&M or JC Penney have some great long necklaces that you can use as the basis of this look. For more interesting pieces with quirky details such as pendants and beading look no further than your local thrift store or flea market. I recently bought a gold costume jewelery chain with tiny gold coin detail (very Gucci groupie) from a flea market for around $10. A tiny silver anchor dangling amongst layered silver chains could also be an eye-catching, and original focal point.

The best thing about this trend? You get to wear all your fave necklaces at once! Just like when you were five…
