Moulin Rouge night at Baroq Bar - May

Experience the magic and fall down the rabbit hole into a world of opulence and old world glamour. Step through the door of the exciting Baroq bar! Garters for the girls and black tie for the gents as this exclusive bar doesn’t let any old riff raff in!

I see the Baroq bar ahead… hidden along a cobbled laneway between Melbourne Central and QV. As I approach, a regimented doorman greets me with, “evening ladies, ready for the Moulin Rouge night?...because its one you wont forget!”… As I make my entrance into this Victorian styled mansion I see two ladies to my left with gold paint and crystal adorning their bodies….it seems as if they’re dressed as chandeliers (how they got those lights going I’ll never know) And to my right I see a two metre martini glass, I’m almost expecting showgirl Kylie to pop out of the top!

All round, its lace, feathers and corsets as I manoeuvre my way to the bar which is a little difficult, this place is packed. To get me in the mood, I try Absinth, very sweet with a kick like a rocket best I only have one or two of these (maybe three if I’m feeling cheeky)! The sugar cube melts just as the entertainment switches on. I see a couple take centre stage as “Roxanne” begins to play. The two twist and turn and lift, it’s like watching a supercharged “so you think you can dance”….this club Baroq has an atmosphere and style that is definitely visually stimulating. Even more so when you have one of their nights specials! Every patron here tonight seems to be in top gear and there is so much going on that you cant help but be impressed…this has got to be the top night spot in all of Melbourne.

One of the things I love about Baroq is that every Saturday night they have a makeup artist doing makeovers in the ladies bathroom... This is really kinda cute… so I go for va va voom and try some red lippy to match the theme… somehow I feel French already!

I move on through a sea of people to a narrow staircase with vintage wallpaper and onto the dance floor. And its …wait for it…..air-conditioned! Wow, that’s a first! I can leave my Rexona in the bag! It’s easy to see from here that Baroq is truly an exclusive crowd! No rough and tuff stuff…just fun loving people. No wonder I feel like a VIP as do the others when you see celebrities like Janae from Neighbours; football players and past big brother contestants shaking their things! All round, an experience of a lifetime. Enough to keep my quiet…at least till next weekend.
