Australian Model Mania: Miranda Kerr

I would like to tell you a story about a gorgeous girl from Gunnedah named Miranda May Kerr.

Now, love her or hate her, you have to admit that the girl sure has talent. Born on April 20, 1983 in Gunnedah, New South Wales. According to 'Today Tonight' she is of mixed ethnic heritage: Iranian, Serbian, Turkish and Filipino, which certainly explains the gorgeous tone of her skin.

During her childhood, Kerr stated she "raced motorbikes and rode horses on [her] grandmother’s farm" and describes her early life in the Australian countryside as "very grounding ... there wasn’t any pretentiousness and no one really cared what you were wearing. You could just be you."

At age thirteen, Kerr won the 1997 annual Dolly Magazine/Impulse Model Competition and she flew to Sydney a week before her fourteenth birthday to shoot for the mag. Of her win the local media expressed "concerned outrage" because of her age. The controversy raised concerns about the glorification of young girls within fashion/beauty/entertainment industries.

Her Dolly shoot expressed further outrage with some going as far as to state that it constitued "child pornography" because Kerr was in bathing suits. Kerr lauded these claims as: ridiculous.

Kerr then signed to Chic Managment, the Sydney Division, and she received commercial exposure after modelling for Billabong, Tigerlily, Roxy and One Teaspoon. She was also the face of Portmans in Australia, which is where many Australians were first introduced to Miss Kerr.

She relocated to New York

Once there she landed in many runway shows, signed with Next Model Agency (2004) and was booked for designers like Lisa Ho, Bettina Liano, L.A.M.B, Betsey Johnson, Rock and Repbulic and Roberto Cavalli. She frequently appeared in televised Victoria's Secret runway parades but it wasn't until her success with Maybelline cosmetics did she become the first Australian model to be an Angel.

In 2007 she became the face of Californian fashion retailer Arden B and she also became the new face of Clinique Happy and in 2008 she replaced Megan Gale (thank god!) as the face of David Jones. Forbes placed Kerr tenth in the list of the world's top-earning models.

She's been dubbed "the next MacPherson", has gorgeous dimples and is remarkably down-to-earth. She cares about nutrition, loves Vegimite, and actually admits to having to work for her body. Because don't you hate it when people with gorgeous bodies remark "I don't exercise and I eat such bad food...he he...it's genetics..."?

Celebrity photographer Russell James said  "the US has fallen in love with her. We love her because she has the most incredible girl-next-door look and she’s also insanely beautiful. It means women are not intimidated by her looks and guys think they might be able to talk to her. It’s a fantastic combination ... people want to be around her; she’s fun on a shoot … and she’s not stupid, which can be a very annoying trait among some models."

Miranda also loves charities, which isn't rare, but you get the feeling she actually cares. Her charitable work includes Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and Children International. It was said that she practices a Japanese branch of Buddhism, Nichiren Buddhism. She is now writing a self-help book for teeange girls titled Treasure Yourself and aims to help teenagers with information she has learned over the years.

If this wasn't enough she also is dating the gorgeous Orlando Bloom.

So let's sum it up shall we?

Dimples?                                                                                                                      Check!

Cute Bum?                                                                                                                    Check!

Dream Job?                                                                                                                 Check!

Cute Boyfriend?                                                                                               Check!

No matter what people say, I really like Miranda Kerr. I have never seen her look sad (which kind of annoys me a bit) and she always look gorgeous. She has a lot going for and I'm not one to be jealous of someone's success. In fact, I think that her humble, country beginnings show us that dreams really do come true and Miranda does it in a cool and effortless style.
