MYER SS09

The MYER Spring Summer 09 parade was welcomed in by a surprisingly warm winter night, a team of all-males serving canapés and drinks, and a stack of celebrities, designer types and other ubiquitous faces.

Held at the Entertainment Quarter last Wednesday night the crowd folded into the pristine white, domed Byron Kennedy Hall where seating circled around the runway giving everyone a first-class view. And so the show began, with not just a circular runway, but a revolving one too.

I used to be the person flicking through the Sunday papers commenting that “Jennifer Hawkins is so not that hot”, in fact; I think “beige” was the word I most commonly used to describe her. My worldly opinion was shot to pieces when Jennifer Hawkins strutted out in her insy-winsy teeny-weeny yellow ruffled bikini. Truth is, she is that hot. And from that minute forward I was a converted “Jen” fan.

The parade was a solid show of Spring Summer collections from designers such as Camilla and Marc, Yeojin Bay, Leona Edmiston, Jayson Brunsdon andJosh Goot. Most impressive was the fact that with each new designer the parade was consistent in quality from start to finish. Though, I must admit I made a bit of a silent protest and closed my eyes for anything Wayne Cooper… never really been a fan of wife beaters (and I don’t mean the singlet).

There were some very lust worthy moments, for both the clothes and the models. There was a fine mix of male talent included on the bill as well as some great fashion moments where you can’t help but say something wanky like “That’s devine!”There were also a few great moments when the models almost had a few stacks due to the revolving catwalk and some , but all in all with revolving floors, heels and legs like toothpicks they did surprisingly well.

Ok, so with all the good there has to be a bit of bad, besides I’m hardly the gushy type… which brings me to the goodie bags. When I saw the massive, shiny black MYER bag with tissue paper spilling over I got pretty damn excited. Tissue paper always means good things right? Wrong! In this case it sole purposed seemd to be to cover the lack of goodness in the goodie bag. A pot of hair stuff, a copy of Grazia, a copy of the FREE MYER mag and a MAC eyeliner (which was missing from my bag and the only real perk). It really just didn’t cut it. It was like getting a lolly bag with only freckles and bullets, totally disappointing.
