There’s nothing like a launch party, except for maybe a closing party. But let’s work chronologically here people, through what was Melbourne Spring Fashion Week; starting with the opening night party held at Silk Rd. A rather flashy name for a rather flashy venue, the backdrop Silk Rd made for a perfect night of opulence.

Winter blacks had been traded for and abundance of colour (the trusty post-winter wardrobe pick me up), while smoky sultry eyes were swapped for dewy, fresh faces. The feel of spring was most definitely in the air. Models showcased spring wares to a thick and bustling crowd, who looked on with appreciative nods and smiles. The models were adorned with layer upon layer of flowy fashion borrowing from tribal and globally exotic influences, with thick plaits and flower arrangements perched on their heads. It was a look that would make us mere mortals look like crazy bag ladies, but was pulled off sensationally by a stellar cast of models who looked like a Vogue editorial come to life.

Circling the crowds were trays of modern Asian nibbles and trays upon trays of Mumm champagne which kept the crowds well vitalized for a long night of outfit watching, scene schmoozing and idle chatter. As far as launch nights go it set the benchmark high for a week long love affair with all that spring fashion has to offer.
