It's a slightly unusual start for a fashion label, beginning as a snowboard-based collection, but that's exactly where Melbourne label Lola & Evie began. Fusing a sophisticated street look with the casual ease of a snow and surf aesthetic, I spoke with the label's sales manager Christine Hocking to discuss the collection Lack of Symmetry (Summer 08/09).

So why Lola & Evie? "The name is actually based around 2 classic rock songs not anything to do with girls named lola&evie and one song is about a transvestite which is probably creepy if you read into it too much!"

Designer Rebecca Pettigrove coupled her passion for snowboarding with her formal training in fashion design to create an edgy, but highly wearable range. The collection is filled with subtle colours and graphic, bold patterns - the Evietoo dress is a standout piece, with a striking pattern set against a plain black background. It's styled perfectly in the lookbook with the peach Suburban vest.

In snowboard stores now is the Alpine range, and the Lack of Symmetry range (in stores September) will have Christine's favourite piece, the Ice Skating Skirt (pictured below).

And finally, who is the Lola & Evie girl? "Savvy, confident and worldy, she is in to the creative lifestyle and is active in music skate surf or snow with an edgy but girly look."
