Voting is now open for the 2threads Australian Fashion Awards

After being stocked in boutiques all around Australia, like Mary & Me in NSW, it’s about time Leonard St opened its own store. Located on the corner of High St and Chapel St, this seems to be the hottest location for the new kid on the block.

The launch was held on the 27th August, strategically held the week before one of the biggest events on Melbourne’s fashion calendar, Spring Fashion Week.

Amanda McCarthy said that while the store opened over three months ago, they waited until their fan base had built before officially launching,

“Now we’ve actually got some customers which is great,” she said.

The brand has being featured in many magazines with shoots in Marie Clare, Cosmopolitan and Cleo, as well as a designer profile in Yen.

Described in Yen as having ‘simplistic, feminist charm,’ the main themes for the Spring/Summer Leonard Street 09 ranges are tomato, berry and pebble.

Among the skirts, jumpsuits and pretty summer dresses you can also find some real treasures in the handbag section and even some jewellery or cute shoes.

One of my personal favourites from the collection is a gorgeous 80s style skirt. It’s a pale blue number, striped with buttons all down the front. It’s also adaptable because it has belt loops, add a cute tan belt and you’re away!

There are some larger bags, but the ones that caught my eye (and many other keen shoppers there) were the 60s patterned clutches, the perfect size and the perfect designs!

Another colour that stood out for the warmer months that will be here (fingers crossed) soon was lemon. Leonard St has embraced this color whether it is with flowing dresses or a cute t-shirt with an owl on it!

Another popular item on the night was the jumpsuit. Reigniting a love affair with Melbournians, this piece won’t be for everyone, but for those who can pull it off, head to Leonard St. It’s a full-length, strapless piece that is perfect for those with a Kate Moss type body. It comes in denim blue, black or silver and teamed with heels, will be perfect for some Sunday sessions in this warm weather.

Another dress to check out in store is a beautiful, berry-colored strapless piece. So berry-like, you’ll want to bite into it, it’s elasticized in the middle (like a few of their pieces) and flares out from the hips. There are also similar styles in an off-the-shoulder version and thick-strapped.

Capulets in aqua are also hot for the season, as well as high waisted denim skirts, detailed pockets on skirts and pants, printed tees and streamlined dresses in stone or red.

You can check out their collection online or head to the shop in Prahran.
