L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2009: Fashion Collections #1

Waking up with a buzz after the success of Runway #1, I was excited to see who I'd be watching for Fashion Collections #1. Who could it be? Camilla and Marc? Alex Perry? Ginger and Smart? I checked my pass: Sussan. Cool! .....wait, what? SUSSAN?! The shop all the grandmas go to get their nighties and capri pants? Why, I might bore myself to sleep!

But as I trudged through the big wooden doors of the old Malvern Town Hall (even the venue sounds boring!) it was like I had opened wardrobe doors to Narnia. Suddenly there were lights, music and free Pelegrino flavoured water. Maybe this won't be so sucky after all.

Once the parade started, I noticed the fashion was divided into a few key trends that we'll be seeing for 2009.

Bohemian - fur vests, fringing, harem pants, slouchy boots, charm jewellery, paisley and layering scarves and vests, beads, hanging belts, gradual tie-dye, thick knit cardigans

Biker chick - studded boots, leather jackets, black leggings and slouchy pants, gloves, booties

1900's - 1930's pilot uniform, 1920's fringing, sequins, fur wraps, draping, masculinity

Think typical Sussan clothing with a twist - older women can continue to wear Sussan's warm woollens, jersey pants and dressy tops, while younger women who wouldn't normally give Sussan the time of day can experiment with their new fashion trends.

So the winter wear parade was over, and I reached for my goodie bag... until it started snowing. I'd almost forgotten about Sussan's famous sleepwear range. So more hot models showed us the latest sleepwear collection which comprised of woollen bed socks, lots of cutsie patterns i.e. stripes, polkadots and pin-up girl print, pom poms, bralette and knicker sets and fur shawls.

And now, I can actually spend my Sussan voucher. Sorry mum, haha!
