Meet the man behind labels Jensen and Jensen X, Justin Marmot. We quizzed him on his designs and how he has managed to create one of Australia's most successful menswear labels.

How did you get involved in fashion?
I have grown up around fashion. From as early as I can remember my sister was dressing me in smart boyswear and I guess it just evolved from there.

What inspired you to get involved in designing men's shirts?
Along the family ties, my father started a menswear label 34years ago. After I came back from some OS traveling (10years ago) I got a job with him and started to work my way up.

What were your motivations for establishing the Jensen label?
I am a young guy who wants to look his best. I found that I was having difficulty finding shirts that fit me the way shirts should fit (not ballooning in the chest or waist). I spent a lot of time in getting the patterns right to fit the natural V- shape of a mans body by accentuating the shoulders and slimming down the body and sleeves… and once the patterns were right – the Jensen label was born.

What hurdles have you faced?
Of course it is not enough to just have the right fit – you also need to have the right quality to back it up, the right selection of fabrics and styles, as well as branding and packaging. Even after all of this – I think the biggest hurdle is actually getting the brand out there and getting people to recognize the brand and try the product.

What does the label offer its customers?
The brand offers an opportunity for men to be wearing fashion forward shirts that actually fit the body. We have adopted the tag line Cut Bold for Jensen, as everything from the fabric choice, to the cut of the shirt, to the way you feel when you wear one is a little bit BOLD….. At last you can wear a shirt that fits in all the right places.

How do you source your fabrics?
I visit Europe twice a year to source fabrics and pick up on the latest fashion trends. Then adapt them to the Australian marketplace.

What makes the perfect men's shirt?
It starts with the fit and the right fabric (for the right occasion). The styling and attention to detail to compliment the fabric comes next (collars, cuffs and other details). And of course the right quality manufacturing and finishing bringing it all together is essential.

What defines the Jensen label?
It is all about the fit and feeling good about the shirt you are wearing. Being a little bit individual.

Where do you hope to take the label in the next 3-5 years?
A mainstream label that continues to develop and grow to stay fashion forward and ahead of the game.

Your friends say you're... A bit of a joker, but somebody who knows where the line is.

Who inspires you... My beautiful fiancee.

What do you like to eat for breakfast?
I love juice in the morning. I like to mix it up between toast and cereal. Fruit. Or Sometimes go for some croissant action down at the nearby bakery.

The weekend is about... Relaxing. Beach. Park. Catching up with friends. Maybe a bit of partying.
