On Thursday 6th of December, Melbourne’s hipster elite indulged their morbid side for the opening Julia de Ville’s latest jewellery collection. Held at Fat on Brunswick St, the opening showcased de Ville’s latest madcap creations - from a taxidermy mouse with cast silver dragonfly wings to Victorian mourning jewellery inspired memento moris. Known for her macabre and beautiful creations, this l’enfant terrible has received a mixture of both controversy and adulation - tonight, however, the emphasis was on the latter.

With the night so balmy, the party soon spilled from the confines of the store to the street, where guests enjoyed Go Shu Sake, Peroni Beer, Jameson's Whiskey and Nutrient Water. Inside Fat, guests perused de Ville’s work under the watchful eye of a mounted deer head, while the doleful strains of Joy Division completed the eerie mood.
