Have you ever wondered how Australia started out during the first European Settlement? ‘Impact: A changing land’ is an exhibition on now at the New South Wales State library, showcasing photographs from the early stages of the Australian settlement to images of the state of climate and environmental control of today. It hopes to open up peoples minds to the awareness of the impact humans have on today’s environmental state that, in turn, determines the state of our future.
Scientists have argued that these days’ pollutions are caused by cars, fuels, nuclear plants, power stations etc, but the truth of the matter is our ancestors were not as educated about the land as we aware now. The Earth we live on today would have been a high priority if they understood the effects of development of cities and big buildings, and over exploitation of natural resources, which all play apart of global warming today.
The pictures depict the relationship that the people of Australia have with the land, demonstrating the impact on our cities, coastal areas, rivers and islands. By looking back at the evidences in history we can try to understand how to minimise the effects on our future. What: Impact – A changing land Where: NSW state Library at the Mitchell Wing Gallery. When: 10 November 2007 – 24 February 2008 Admission: Free
