How to Wear Fall's Makeup Trends

How to wear fall makeup trends are always seemingly a tricky, sticky situation coming out of the bright, sunkissed state of summer. Taking a look at what some of the designers in Fashion Week sent their models down the runway to complement their collections can really give us an idea of what to complement our own collections we create. For the skin, you want a muted, more of an"eggshell" finish, according to Christopher Del Castillo, a Senior makeup artist with MAC, with contoured cheeks (think subtle, not Studio 54). Makeup trends for Fall 2008 will be all about subtle structure.

Also, eyes are smudgy in shades of slate and wet concrete, and topped off with mascara - a fall must-have according to Del Castillo. "She's the girl we all want to be," explains makeup artist Gucci Westman who keyed the makeup for MAC at Sari Gueron (left). "She doesn't take hours to do her makeup and she still looks good.

Consider adding one or two of these makeup trends to your daily routine.
* Contour Those Cheeks: Choose neutral tones and heavily contour the cheek area. This means applying the blush under the cheekbone instead of directly on it. It should be defined, but subtle enough to almost look like a shadow. Then, use a subtle blush on only the apple of the cheek. You want it to look like the color is coming from within. Choose one of the top five blushes to find the perfect shade for you. My favorite and affordable cheek color is Maybelline You Mauve Me.

* Brows Are Back: After years of over-tweezing, the strong eyebrow continues to make a comeback. It was big in 2007 and will remain big in 2008. Eyebrows frame the face and enhance the eyes. Let your eyebrows grow back and have them professionally groomed into a shape that suits your face. Define the brow using an eyeshadow for a clean, complete look, without overdoing it. A good idea is to get clear mascara, like clear gel, or you can even you lip gloss, and just swipe a bit on your fingertip (very little bit) so that your grown brows look strong but not bushy and messy.

* Flawless Finish: While it has always been wise to use a foundation makeup that is virtually indetectable, this season it is one of the must-have items. Apply a liquid or cream foundation over heavily moisturized skin and then blend, blend, blend. If you have put off buying a foundation brush, now is the time to make that purchase. A foundation brush is the best way to acheive smooth, even coverage with little effort. Target has amazing makeup brushes, afordable and effecient.

* Color is Key: New York Fashion Week boasted a wide array of color on the catwalk, but the colors on nearly every runway were slate greys , charcoals, pewters, and the neutral brown-greys. Consider using a grey kohl eyeliner smudged across the lash line, or using it as an accent color in the crease of your existing eyeshadow palette.

* Mascara is a Must: Mascara adds volume, color, and definition to your eyes. This fall, it's all about lashes. Apply three thin layers of mascara instead of one thick one. Almost anyone and everyone can wear black mascara.

*For Lips, use lighter and more natural shades of brown, pink and peach will be worn. Clear and lip shades of lipstick will actually be even more popular than will be. The whole idea with lips is to keep them very natural. Perfect for the job is my favorite I use daily, Burts Bees lip shimmer in Champagne.
