Givenchy go Tribal with Animal Print Trousers and Leggings in Spring 2010
Looking back on the spring collections that were presented for spring ready to wear 2010 last year, Givenchy’s show was definitely a highlight for Paris fashion week. The show opened with a theme of opposites that ran throughout the whole collection. A black and white geometric blazer paired with draped pants is just one example of a play on proportions. Throughout the collection head designer Riccardo Tisci referenced the kaffiyeh scarf, featuring the psychedelic and highly tribal print on pants, leggings and tops.

While the print ran the risk of clashing with the aesthetic that the collection was creating, it proved to act as a smooth transition between the monochrome geometric pieces and the softer Grecian inspired pieces. The show was punctured with pieces that featured exquisite draping and juxtaposition between sequins and silk which resulted in beautiful evening wear.

While I am still undecided about the headpieces, the collection moved effortlessly between sharp tailoring and soft feminine pieces and at times the two extremes were put together, resulting in a beautiful ensemble that displayed Tisci’s vast talent. Style.com predicted that this collection is going to be a bit hit – for both high fashion and the everyday woman and I don’t think they are too far off the mark.
