Ginger & Smart RAFW Day 1
Ginger & Smart has always been associated with elegant designs and utter sophistication- the latest Ginger & Smart collection revealed at RAFW kept with this traditional approach whilst injecting strong modern prints and floating layers. Designers Genevieve and Alexandra Smart, seemed to have taken inspiration from a mixture of nautical, ocean-side style and softer hues that were reminiscent of butterfly wings.
The colour palette changed between dominating blues and whites, in softly layered maxi dresses, and unusual colour fusions that were reminiscent of Summer fruit bowls. Fabrics remained silky and light throughout the collection- essential pieces like silk high waisted harem pants, worked with silk singlet tops, are sure to become the must have buy of Spring/Summer.
In remaining true to the theme of light, breezy days, the stand out piece was a rainbow silk kite featured on the back of one of the models (no, she didn't blow away!). Other show stealers included skin tight pants adorned with studded detail down the leg, and a gold metal bolero worn contrastingly over a soft silky dress. Biege seemed to feature as a repeated undertone throughout the collection, yet there were clear splashes of citrus and gold zipper detail. The pencil thin stiletto heels caused a few runway mishaps, but never the less, Ginger & Smart prevailed with their elegant and Summer inspired collection.
