Whilst the last thing I want to do is give Karl Lagerfeld even more publicity after the whole “No one wants to see curvy women” debacle (I DO, KARL. I DO) and regardless of how terrible the last Chanel show was, it has to be admitted that he’s gone some way in leading the remarkable return of fingerless gloves. Mr Lagerfeld featured them on the runway all the way back in Spring 2007, and has since paired them with everything from suits to evening dresses. Recently, fingerless gloves have enjoyed an extra boost, thanks to the ‘80s biker look that’s ‘so hot right now’. So, this Spring, dig through your Mum’s wardrobe and work those fingerless leather gloves. I’m sure she’ll be able to give you some tips on how to wear them. No? Oh, okay, here we go then:

For celebrity inspiration, look to Rihanna and Taylor Momsen (in fact, Rihanna’s kind of made it her ‘thing’). Street Style websites are great sources of inspiration too; if you haven’t noticed the cool kids wearing them on the streets, you’ve been living in a barn (geddit? Like Lagerfeld!) Pair your fingerless gloves with pendant necklaces, sheer black fabrics, lots of skin, Raybans and a good dose of attitude à la Madonna circa Desperately Seeking Susan. Alternatively, take a fresh twist on the ‘80s classic by juxtaposing the gloves with short, girly, full bodied dresses, florals and lots of white. Whichever way you dress them up, they’re sure to look amazing (wish I didn't want you like I do, want you and no one else).
