Skirts are always trendy and I have some fashion advice: how to wear vintage mini skirt trend.  I hope it helps those seasonally challenged.  First things first, skirts can be worn year round, it's just how you wear them and what you wear them with that changes.  There are many beautiful mini skirts to choose from: high waisted mini skirts, tight leather skirts, and tartan skirts all have a vintage vibe. 

Fashion Advice: How to wear Vintage Mini Skirt Trend in the Fall and Winter:

Wearing a mini skirt in the winter isn't as tricky as it sounds.  You have the chance to play with layers, whether it be t-shirts and cardigans or tanks and sweaters.  Be sure to wear tights to keep those stems warm and play with the length of your coat. You also have the luxury of choosing sexy footwear: ballerina flats, sneakers, chucky high heels, and ankle to knee high boots look stunning with winter vintage mini skirts.  Ashley Olsen and Fearne Cotton wear the vintage mini skirt in two completely different ways.  Ashley Olsen vamps it up with a high waisted mini leather and a loose grey tee.  What makes her stand out is her choice in patterned tights.  Fearne Cotton is super casual in her vintage mini tartan skirt and she looks hip and comfortable with her opac tights and converse sneaks.  Both looks are great for fall. Then the Gossip Girls rock the look in the winter by wearing vintage mini tartan skirts with tights and and winter coats.  As you can see,  they're not shy when it comes to playing with colors and textures.

Fashion Advaice: How to wear Vintage Mini Skirt Trend in the Spring:                    

The same rules with layering and textures from fall and winter vintage minis applies now.  If you choose a tight vintage mini skirt, like Selita Ebanks, Ashley Olsen and Nicky Hilton, then go for looser up top.  You can layer on light sweaters or blazers if it's still a little chilly.  What I love about these girl's take on this look is their shoes!  Go for bold because this is a bold look!

Fashion Advice: How to wear VIntage Mini Skirt Trend in the Summer:

I love this trend in the summer, it's so casual.  There are few things naturally sexier than tanks and tees tucked into high waisted vintage mini skirts.  Bare arms and bare legs make this trend timeless.  I wouldn't recommend rocking the leather mini in the summer, stick with simple cotton vintage minis, like Lauren Conrad's.  She got the California girl look down here, her bright red, flowy vintage mini skirt is fabulous, especially with strappy flat sandals and a tucked in tank.  Ashley Olsen loves this trend so much she wears it year round.  Here she's rocking the vintage mini with a t-shirt tucked in.  What makes her look so spot on here is the shape of her skirt.  It puffs out and you can still see her small frame.  These two looks are steal-worthy!

Where to get Vintage Mini Skirts and how to make your own

Etsey sells great handmade vintage mini skirts and Kaboodle has a huge variety of high waisted mini skirts and shopping.msn.com has a huge selection of mini skirts, including the leather mini skirt, for great prices.  I found this adorable 1960's velvet mini skirt at ballyhoovintage.com. 

You can also be crafty cathy and make some great minis from old skirts of your own.  It's as simple as snipping extra material off the bottom and making sure to leave an extra inch to inch and half for hemming.  You don't want to leave it raw because it will fray and look, well, homemade (but in a bad way).  Also, if your skirt doesn't have a high waist and you want that look, take the scrap from the bottom and finish the edges (so it looks like a sash) and sew it around the top of the skirt (see Conrad's vintage mini for inspiration).  For more detailed instruction go to essortment.com and you'll have a homemade mini skirt in under an hour!
