Drummer Hugh Boyce has announced he is quitting Sydney band Dappled Cities Fly. His performance with the band at the Oxford Arts Factory, Sydney, on Valentine's Day was his last before his home crowd. Singer and guitarist Tim Derricourt marked the occasion with an I LOVE HUGH tshirt.
Hugh has played with the band that would become Dappled Cities Fly for more than half his life. His precise, nuanced drumming and good humour have been a foundation of the Dappled sound -- it's difficult to imagine him being replaced.
Hugh's reasons for retiring, his plans for the future and candidates for his replacement are yet to be announced.
Hugh's contributions can be enjoyed on all the Dappled Cities Fly releases to date. Sydney has farewelled Hugh already but people can see him one last time in Melbourne on Friday February 15th and in Brisbane on Saturday February 16th.
He will be greatly missed.
