Whether it be for a red carpet event or a night out on the town the sparkly dress trend is especially hot right now, seen on the likes of Britney Spears and Charlize Theron.

This trend is perfect for night. It wouldn't work for the day because it's just too much of a statement. It's glamorous and makes an impact- ensuring all eyes will be on you. The silver sparkly dress is becoming more and more of a trend while the black sparkly dress has been around for quite awhile.

The black sparkly dress is more of a conservative take on a daring trend. As with most things black, it is easier to wear than a silver dress. [dress from French Connection]

The girls from British band, Girls Aloud, wearing the sparkly dress trend in different colours.

In the case of Charlize and Britney I vote Charlize. The length of the dress is gorgeous and she, as always, looks beautiful. I feel like Britney's dress has too much going on, cleveage and fringing at the bottom, though she has improved.

I really adore Fergie's look here. Her dress is a tad short but I adore the red shoes with the dress. I'm not a fan of Ashley Tisdale's dress. I don't know if it's the dress itself, the shoes or just the way she's standing but I'm not feeling it.

Be careful when you wear this trend. Too much sparkle is far too much. You don't want to be OTT. Sparkle isn't like an all- black outfit where you can wear as much as you want - you need to tread carefully. Let's think about this: would you wear a sparkly dress with sparkly shoes and a sparkly bag with sparkly accessories? No, you wouldn't, or at least I hope so.

I really love this trend. It is gorgeous and glam and makes a huge statement. I would love to buy a similar dress as the ones above but I don't know if I could handle it, nor would I probably ever wear it but it would be a great thing to have in my wardrobe to just sit pretty.
