Michelle Jank
When Michelle Jank decided to pursue a career in fashion design, it was because it was her “calling.” Perhaps calling is the right word to describe her vision; after all, this is the designer whom Cate Blanchett once called the “anointed one” and who counts Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts as fans.Like designers Akira Isogawa and Nicole Zimmermann, Jank began her career at Fashion Design Studio at East

Honey & Beau
Exciting, fresh, pretty and extremely wearable are words that can be use to describe Australian label Honey and Beau.Sue Zhong, the brains behind the label, started Honey and Beau in 2003. Having previously worked with designers such as Lisa Ho and Collette Dinnigan, Zhong started the label in an attempt to create high quality, functional pieces for women.
‘St. Barts Comes to Town,’ Honey and B

Mary-Kate Olsen
Mary Kate Olsen has always been known for her sense of style, but events of the past few years have somewhat overshadowed her flair for fashion. The 22-year-old actress and designer suffered from anorexia, and entered rehab just after her 18th birthday. More recently, Olsen has been caught up in the death of actor Heath Ledger, and will soon testify in front of a Grand Jury.Although the more notorious of the Olsen twins,

Anja Rubik
It’s understandably hard not to be jealous of Anja Rubik. As well as having impossibly long legs and to-die-for cheekbones, the 23 year old has already worked with the likes of Balenciaga and Dolce and Gabbana. And, in typical supermodel fashion, Rubik manages to work a short, elvin crop just as well as her previously long tresses. Envious much?Rubik was born on June 11, 1985 in Czestochowa, Poland. She enrolled in

White Suede
Sibling labels have been on the rise over the years: think Camilla and Marc Freeman (Camilla and Marc) and Alexander and Genevieve Smart (Ginger & Smart.) Demkiw siblings Nick and Jacqui are the brains behind Melbourne’s White Suede, a label which looks only set to rise in popularity. The label began in 2003 when Nick, a graphic designer and owner of Bamboo Records joined forces with sister Jacqui, who has a desig

Chronicles of Never
Gareth Moody is indeed a talented man. As well as being co-founder of Ksubi (formerly known as Tsubi) he is also the brains behind Chronicles of Never, an up-and-coming Aussie label that is recognizable by the simple colour palette of its clothing collection and the masculine overtones of its jewellery line.Moody started Chronicles of Never in 2006, after spending six years with Ksubi. Working previously with Ksubi taught

Milk & Honey
What do you get when you throw an ex-model, a self taught businesswoman and a need for new clothes into the mixing pot? Well, if you’re Gill Milligan, you’ll wind up with Aussie label Milk and Honey.Milligan came up with the idea for Milk and Honey in 2003, upon discovering that she simply ‘had nothing to wear.’ It was launched a year later, and was showcased at 2005 Mercedes Australian Fashion Wee

Erin Wasson
Erin Wasson may be a pretty face, but it’s clear that there is more to her than her stunning features. Although the supermodel is mostly famous for strutting down the catwalk, she’s also been the stylist for Alexander Wang’s fashion shows and has started her own jewellery line, Luv Low by Erin Wasson. All this, at the ripe old age of 26.Wasson’s career began in 1999, when she won the Kim Dawson mod

Romance Was Born
Words don’t do justice to the visual experience that is Romance Was Born. Although the name is suggestive of frills, bows and multiple hues of pink, the label is definitely a far cry from this. Thanks to the eclectic and unique pieces produced, the Aussie label is making its mark on both the local and international fashion industry.
Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales are the brains behind Romance Was Born. After cro

When Celebs Design
These days you would be hard pressed to find a celebrity who is famous for one reason only. Many celebrities have undergone the process of diversification by using their fame from one area to branch out into others. In the past six months, we’ve seen Scarlett Johansson record an Tom Waits cover album, supermodel Gemma Ward appear in the Aussie flick ‘The Black Balloon’ and Jennifer Lopez release yet another perfume.Read more...
The Divine Miss M: Miranda Kerr
Miranda Kerr appears to have it all. She lives in a luxurious penthouse in Manhattan, counts herself among the elite Victoria’s Secret Angels and recently signed a contract to be the new face of David Jones. To top it off, the Aussie beauty has a knack for style. Attribute it to being surrounded by designer threads 24/7 if you will, but there’s no denying the slender brunette looks great in pretty much anything.

Something To Talk About: The Fashion of the Gossip Girls
The genetically blessed circle of friends. The high-society parties that are thrown for any, and every, occasion. Enough drama to put Bold and the Beautiful to shame. Colour trend: In The Navy
The chilliest time of year has arrived at last, and what a grand entrance it has made! Fashionistas everywhere have farewelled the warm weather and packed away their micro minis and oversized sunnies. Martinis have been swapped for macchiatos, Friday night dinner with the girls has been deferred until the sun comes back out to play and hot water bottles have become the new bedroom accessory.Luckily for us, there is a good

Manolos, Multiple Partners and Memories: revisiting Sex and the City
The eagerly anticipated Sex and the City movie is about to hit Australian shores, and it’s all anyone can talk about. Thanks to the huge success of the television show, the movie has more hype surrounding it than the latest pair of Manolo Blahniks. Here are some of my favourite moments from the final season of the show which introduced Cosmos, Fendi baguette bags and female sexual empowerment to the mainstream.Read more...
Splendour madness
It's that time of year again...the cardis and gumboots are unashamedly unpacked from our closets, the car is loaded up with clothes and alcohol (well, mostly alcohol) and we trek our way up north to Byron Bay for the annual Splendour in the Grass festival. No one thought that the Brit-explosion at last year's festival (Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Lily Allen) could be topped but this year's lineup is nothing short of unmissable.Read more...
