Have you ever had a hair moment worthy of taking note of? Australia Fashion Magazine Oyster decided that not only the bad hair days be remembered, but the moments in which made you smile be given the attention they deserved.
Collaborating with hair care range KMS California they were giving you the chance to be your own style editor, all you had to do was upload up to 5 pictures of yourself having your ‘moment’. Over the duration of the competition there was one fortnightly winner from a series of looks chosen by Oyster and then voted for by the public. With an overall 5 finalists, and ultimately one winner.
By my surprise I just happened to be chosen as one of the finalists, so off to Sydney I jet in the wee hours of a dark August morning to be involved in a fashion shoot held by Oyster. Yes that’s right, we were going to have the opportunity to ‘model’ in Oyster magazine, my holy grail of fashion editorials in Australia. I’m no model, so you can imagine my hesitance, but the opportunity definitely did not leave room for modesty, so with my boyfriend in toe from little Adelaide we venture.
The other 4 finalists were a great bunch, Sylvia & Brendan from Sydney, Ryan from Brisbane and little Anthea from Warrnambool. From a tiring, yet eventful day of shooting finally came the exhibition party, were we all nervously met at the Oxford St Art Factory with the drinks flowing, knowing one of us would walk away with the grand prize of a trip to California and a host of goodies.
5 block-mounted portraits of the finalists along the wall greeted us, you couldn’t help but feel slightly chuffed. Interviewed by the host of the night, Jonathan Pease of Australia’s Next Top Model fame on stage, entertained by Triple J’s unearthed band Art vs Science and after what felt like a memory card of photos taken the winner was announced.
Miss Sylvia in her delight took out the title, and she was a graceful winner at that.
My opinion? We were all winners, after beating 1015 entrants, to be apart of the final 5 was a huge effort. Our chosen pictures looked amazing, the experience that we were involved in could be categorised as once in a lifetime, to have my picture in Oyster magazine is something I’ll cherish when i'm old and wrinkly, that’s for sure. And that huge life-size picture of me? Well my parents have proudly displayed that on a vacant wall in our house.
I encourage anyone and everyone to take part in this next year, you never know it might be you. I definitely had a hair moment and the whole world knew it. Stay tuned for the next issue of Oyster Magazine out this month for the Hair Moments spread. Http://www.hairmoments.com.au
