Those inspired by what they had seen at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival were given the perfect excuse to fill their wardrobes with the latest trends with ‘A Night at the Playground’ held at Melbourne Central last Wednesday night.
Touted as a celebration of the more frivolous side of fashion, shoppers were not only treated to great discounts and other one night only offers, they were treated to pop-up fashion shows, live DJs and, a fashion week must have, complimentary champagne. This proved all the encouragement most bargain hunters needed to brave crowded shops and the often excruciatingly long queues.
A giant chess board was erected underneath the famous shot tower, becoming the scene for the night’s pop-up fashion shows, showcasing designers including AX and Witchery. These shows cemented black, high waists and ankle boots as this season’s must have looks.
It wasn’t just shoppers who came out to play however, with the Designers at Play installation showcasing the more playful side of six of Australia’s most influential designers. The installation, modelled around the childhoods of designers including Alannah Hill, and Bettina Liano, invoked memories of summers on Tasmanian beaches and garden tea parties. This parade reinforced mustard yellow and shades of deep purple as the colours of winter, with opaque tights and leather also featuring heavily.
A Night at the Playground definitely confirmed Melbourne Central as one of Melbourne’s most fashionable and fun playgrounds.
