Kickin’ off a festive summer season for 2008, 2Threads hosted the first annual 2Threads Australian Fashion Awards at Bungalow 8, Kings Street Wharf in Sydney last month.

The balmy December evening saw stylish Sydney-siders pack the outdoor patio from 6:30pm with complimentary drinks flowing from Jamieson, Strongbow and Carlton, whilst special guest DJ Jason Dundas spun the tunes to an enthusiastic fashion crowd.

The star-studded party included appearances by 2007 Miss Australia Erin McNaught, Australia’s Next Top Model 2008 girls Samantha Downie, Leiden Kronemberger, and Kristy Coulcher, designer Michael Lo Sordo, Bondi Blonde Jamie Wright, the design award winners and of course the 2Threads Sydney crew!

The annual event provides a platform for the Australian public to both nominate and vote for their favourite designers in a variety of categories and is a great way for young designers to make a mark in the industry. As winner of Best Women’s wear for Moneypenny, designer Natalie contends, “Winning has given us fantastic exposure beyond our normal reaches. We have really enjoyed meeting all the people involved and have made some good contacts too.”

Without a doubt, the 2Threads Australian Fashion Awards will be bigger and better in 2009, with another group of amazing designers to showcase next time ‘round. In the meantime, we will be interviewing each of the winners from 2008,  finding out how to best turn that design dream into reality.
